I remember when Bob test fired this one and covered the group with a sliver dollar at 50 yards. Those were the days, Rich! He was a Master Class shooter back then. What struck me was while researching my Saiga brake a while back I ran across some military research from the 50s that basically answers Eric's questions from way back in the beginning of the thread-- the optimum number of baffles, hole sizes, angles and distance between them. Of course it directly applies only to the 155mm howitzer they were fooling with, but there you go, it can be done if you have enough govt $ behind you. On another note, not long ago I read an article that said the high end fluid-dynamics software was just now almost good enough to model muzzle blast properly.
