shred
A cool not well documented Google feature is it'll convert units, sometimes bizzare and obscure ones stick say "32 feet in furlongs" into the search box. Or "20 USD in BRL" or "1 carat in grains" or "100 yards in cubits" it's fun.

George
Here is a freeware app for Mac that will do the same thing but doesn't need web access. http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/20915 You can also get a Tiger Widget from Apple.com that will do the same in the Tiger dashboard. Now on to PC. Here are two similar freeware standards conversion applications for PC. http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/win/27233 http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/win/9757 There are probably several more freeware conversion applications out there and litrally dozens of shareware solutions to choose from if you really want to start looking around ;-)
Huston in Austin
There is a free program called Convert. It is available at: http://joshmadison.net/software/convert/ It will convert all kinds of things. Want to know how many furlongs in a lightyear? Or the speed of light in knots? Or how many square millimeters are in an acre? It has 21 tabs including a custom tab you can input your own conversion into. Have fun.
