TXSouthpaw Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 I work part-time in a gun store, and a guy came in today, said he had some reloading stuff he wanted to get rid off. I asked what it was, and he said it was all shotgun stuff. "What kind of powder is it?" I asked. Whaddaya know, it was a 4lb jug of Clays, which I am using right now. "How much do you want for it", I asked? "Nothing." SWEET!
Sean Gaines Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 Lucky you Josh. I guess that means some more rounds to put downrange. I always wondered what kind of deals you ran across at Pruetts. Apparently some pretty good ones.
Chris Keen Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 (edited) I was at the local indoor range/gun store in Cincinnati one day, shooting a GSSF match, and an older lady was in there selling an older Colt revolver that probably belonged to her dear departed husband. While I was filing out my paperwork I overheard the gun store clerk say that they would give her XX dollars for the gun, but they had no use for the 2 pair of ear muffs, 2 pair of shooting glasses, and the briefcase-style padded case with combination lock built-in. Big enough to carry 2 or 3 guns in. She was astonished that they did not want these state-of-the-art 30 year old ear muffs, and plastic saftey glasses, so she asked if anybody standing next to her would like a free box of gun accessories. Being the gulible type I am I said "sure" and when I looked in the box, I saw cleaning kits, ammo, and other misc. shooting gear. I felt so grateful for the kind gesture I reached in my wallet and gave her a $20 Still felt like I got the better part of the deal, there. Edited March 7, 2006 by Glock24Shooter
Patrick Sweeney Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 Working at a gun shop, we'd get all kinds of extras in deals, stuff we couldn't sell. Those muffs, glasses and case? They'd likely languish in the "make an offer" bin, or finally go out the door for a dollar each. Every gun store clerk in the country has a mis-matched collection of gun cases for his own guns, that came in with various deals or estates. What's really fun is ammo. You can't re-sell a twenty year old box of ammo with six rounds missing. The shelves of our back room were groaning under the weight of ammo that came in. We got to the point of not even bothering to get a box of ammo off the front shelves to test-fire used guns before resale, or testing repaired guns. We'd just use the odd-lots factory ammo in back. Oh, for the good old days.
Intel6 Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 At the local match I shoot at people frequently put up stuff for sale. Two matches ago I was walking up as a guy was putting out his stuff. I immediatly saw a (almost new) MGM auto popper and jumped on it for $20 which is great because they are now $100+ and $20 is almost free in my book. Then off to the side he had "free stuff" and there was a 8lb Titegroup container with a few pounds left in it. I figured since I had purchased something from him I would take that also. Neal in AZ
