I thought it was depressing....

The military guys really didn't seem to have a clue how to shoot. :(

(Not trying to slam the military, just calling it like I saw it)

I try to keep the rants to a minimum but my PMS just kicked in. The Military does what its Civilian leadership tells it to do. In the early part of Viet Nam (I removed war) President Johnson made the decisions as to what targets could or could not be attacked. Mc Namara decided the M16 bore did not need to be chromed. The Military has never been in contol of any thing because the framers of the Consitution were afraid the military would just replace the King they were trying to replace.

In World War II the American attack was stopped so France could be the first into Paris. The attack on Berlin was stopped so Russia could be there first.

In Korea we couldn't fly across the Yalu or the Chinese might come in & when they did we retreated back to the lines drawn before the North Korean attack.

In Viet Nam we couldn't bomb an open pit coal mine outside Hanoi because most of the coal was sold to Japan. Or mine the harbor to prevent shipment of new missiles from China & Russia.

In the Infantry in 1957 we qualified with the M1 to 600 yards or you kept trying until you could. In 1973 it was 100 yards with the M16 because that was thought to be the new combat yardage & it was 10 rounds for zero & 60 rounds to qualify. If you didn't shoot yourself or someone else then you were good to go.

Now except for the snipers, who have big scopes; everyone in Afganistan & Iraq is using some kind of an optical equipped M16 mostly M4's which are good for clearing buildings & not much else. Certain combat units would like to have a better cartridge than the .223 and 1 was developed but it will probably be accepted because it wasn't thought of by armory development personnel (Civilians). The Marine Corps is bypassing the squabble by reissuing old M14's (M1A1) & 1911's.

So get off the military's a$$ and stand on your Congressman's or Woman's front doorstep and demand that the military be properly trained before they send the troops off to bleed.

Nevermind. Originally corrected some major history errors, but that would violate the rules.

Well said. It is not that the military doesn't want better training. Sometimes the resources are not there. We go where we are told, do what we are told, and do it to the best of our ability with the resources that we have.

I want my Soldiers to have the best weapons training that the Army can offer. This is an issue that I think about everyday. I have tons of other stuff I have to balance though.
