Removing Ambi Safety

I have a 1911 with ambi installed. I want to revert to a single. Can I just remove the right hand side safety or do I need to also replace the left side?

You really need to replace the ambi safety with a single-side one. None of the ambis I've dealt with have a cross shaft that would be supported on the right side if the right side lever were removed. A new safety will require gunsmith fitting, if you're not qualified to do it yourself, most of the good ones won't simply drop-in.
