Patrick Sweeney Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 Once again we step off into video land, to see who has a life, and who is able to memorize large chunks of dialogue. The rules are as before: you must not have won in the last year. In order to correctly answer a question, you must provide ALL of the following: The character or actor speaking, the character or actor being spoken to, and the name of the movie. If any part is wrong, no win. No hints, and no answers coaching a partial answer. (i.e., get two out of three right and I’ll be silent until either you get it right or someone corrects you.) Also, no using quote search engines. If you know the movie, I'll allow searching for cast listings to nail down names, but no more than that. For this go-round I’ve got a real collage of movies: 1. “You have two choices: you can apologize and leave, or you can stay and die.” 2. “Even a dog defends his master.” 3. “Have you showered with them? I recommend it, it’s a mind-blower.” 4. “Here’s how it is; anything goes wrong, you die. Your fault, my fault, nobodies fault, you die.” 5. “It’s a terrible thing, killin’ a man. You take everything he is, and everything he’s gonna be.” 6. “Often a man will tell you what he’s going to do, if you just listen.” 7. “If the man with the rifle gets shot, pick up the rifle.” 8. “Get used to disappointment.” 9. “I would not be so good at playing this piano except for practice.” 10. “I haven’t been f**ked like that since the eight grade.” Good luck.
Matt Cheely Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 7. Enemy at the Gates. Some random officer where they are handing out ammo and rifles is calling out instructions to the crowd, one of them being Jude Law's character Vassili Zaitsev. Some others seem familiar but I can't figure them out right now.
Patrick Sweeney Posted March 3, 2006 Author Posted March 3, 2006 Jesus frakkin' Christ! Seven minutes to the first correct answer! I'm telling you guys, I'm going to foreign-language films next time. If you can't figure them out, don't guess.
Jake Di Vita Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 5: Clint Eastwood - Unforgiven 8: Cary Elwes - Princess Bride 10: Helena Bohnam Carter - Fight Club
Nik Habicht Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 4.) “Here’s how it is; anything goes wrong, you die. Your fault, my fault, nobodies fault, you die.” John Wayne (Big JakeMcCandles) to Richard Boone (John Fain, the outlaw gang leader)in Big Jake, 1971 --- playing off of a similar line from earlier in the movie.... 5.) "It’s a terrible thing, killin’ a man. You take everything he is, and everything he’s gonna be.” Clint Eastwood (Will Munny) to Jaimz Woolvett (The Schofield Kid) in Unforgiven, 1992 Four took a little while ---- I had to go back and find the voice recording in my memory to clue me in as to the movie. So familiar and yet so far away.....
wlktheduk Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 Number 4: John Wayne to Richard Boone, "Big Jake"
Patrick Sweeney Posted March 3, 2006 Author Posted March 3, 2006 Nik has two, Matt has one, and we've been at it an hour.
GeneralChang Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 (edited) 1. Anthony Michael Hall in Weird Science when he was confronting the Road Warrior (Vernon Wells, Jennifer Balgobin, Jeff Jensen, Michael Berryman) types that crashed the party. 3. Kelly LeBrock in Weird Science, only she stated that it was a "mind scramble", and she said it to Deb (Suzanne Snyder) and Hilly (Judie Aronson), the girls that Gary and Wyatt liked. Edited March 3, 2006 by GeneralChang
Patrick Sweeney Posted March 3, 2006 Author Posted March 3, 2006 Nik and GeneralChang two each. Matt and Bigbadaboom one each. You guys scare me.
John Dunn Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 10. HBC to Pitt Fight Club, but I think the actual quote is "grade school" rather than "Eighth grade"
San_Esteban Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 #8 Cary Elwes to Mandy Patinkin in Princess Bride
Matthew_Mink Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 6. Open Range - Kevin Costners character talking to Robert Duvalls character.
Patrick Sweeney Posted March 3, 2006 Author Posted March 3, 2006 Correct on all counts. That leaves Nik and the General at two each, Matt, Bigbadaboom, John Dunn, San Esteban and Mr. Mink with one each. By my count that leaves us with one unanswered question, and me needing to come up with more quotes.
John Dunn Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 I think my point should go to Jake, since I ripped off his answer, and already have a book. I loved Fight Club.
Patrick Sweeney Posted March 4, 2006 Author Posted March 4, 2006 John, you are gracious, polite and a credit to IPSC shooters everywhere. But Jake incurred a Procedural on his attempt, and did not follow up to protect his partial answers. The stage description clearly says you have to provide both the speaker and the one spoken to, as well as the movie title. Jake did not do that, you did. You get the answer. However, you say you already have a book? Within the last year?
John Dunn Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 Never won a book, but I did buy the book in 2002.
Jim Norman Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 #4 Real life. My father to a Union Goon in the late 50's. Mom used to answer the door with a locked and cocked .45 under a dishtowel. Pop was quite a guy, Mom was pretty darned tough too! Jim
benos Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 Never won a book, but I did buy the book in 2002. How about some Glide or a T?
John Dunn Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 I have one of those three packs of SG in the different weights....even using it on my presses it'll be years before I'm out. Have a couple of T-shirts already. I just play for fun!
Patrick Sweeney Posted March 9, 2006 Author Posted March 9, 2006 Don't go handing out goodies just yet. No one has won until the Professor says they've won. And there is a tie in the house. and John, we play for blood around here. You want to play for fun, get outta the pool.
GeneralChang Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 I'm up for a tie breaker. I didn't even know I was in the running.
AlamoShooter Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 (edited) I think my point should go to Jake, I loved Fight Club. Did you know '? ? ?Do like watching ...Gladiator movies? Edited March 13, 2006 by AlamoShooter
