Rob Boudrie Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 I have designed a stage for an upcoming match, but can give it one of two "flavors". In each case, the shooting required is identical - the only difference is the stage title and some of the decorative props (if we get that fancy). The stage is set in a wally world discount store. The choices are : Night of the living dead - zombies always seem to converge on shopping malls Floodwaters - need I say more here? One is a carnival type stage with no basis in reality; the other is particularly relevant to today's world. Since both offer the same shooting, the only issue is one of presentation. I'm interested in seeing what people think.
AZ38super Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Kind of a tough one when you can't picture the setup but doing the zombie thing would take more work and a way to make it darker to fit thoughts that come to mind if one was to go all out on a stage.
Dan Sierpina Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Be politically incorrect, Rob! Go with the floodwaters, you can still have wallyworld in it!
Middle Man Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 If I can address this from the standpoint of what makes a good, adventurous, entertaining TV series (for me at least). Way out Sci-Fi can be cool and they have their appeal. However, the closer to reality the fiction is the more potential the story has to be thrilling, convincing and thus entertaining. Take the current success of the man soap opera 24 as an example. It is a great feat for a series to make it through the first couple of seasons. I would hazard a guess that it's nearness to reality adds exponentially to it's popularity. Contrast that to one of my favorite 1980's TV miniseries, TV movie and series V that lasted for one season. V was (and is) popular in a narrow niche while 24 casts a much wider net.
cz75ipsc Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 V rocks! I thought zombies would be cooler of the two.
Nolan Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Zombies! We need a little comic relief every now and then, a steady stream of 'reality' based stages gets boring. Real men have a sense of humor. Nolan
Hamar Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 I'd say combine the two. Zombies wandering aimlessly through a wallyworld after a devastating flood. Remember the myth that Zombies can only be killed by head shots. No no-shoots, just aisles of upper A/B zone targets (the rest of the target hard cover) at different heights and distances.
Bigbadaboom Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 I had an idea for a stage named "Resident Evil" at the Fl S.S. Classic which was going to be held around Holloween. Since you can only kill Zombies by shooting them in the head I was going to take a bunch of targets (around 25), paint them black for hard cover, remove the upper A/B (Head) zone and replace them with 8" steel plates. I still may do this if we put on a Single Stack match because of the Springfield 1911 used in Res Evil. I thought it was a cool idea.
XRe Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 What about a third option?? I've always gotten a big kick out of the last gun fight scene in Army of Darkness... that's basically a Wally World
Ron Ankeny Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Let's all vote for zombies just to get even with Avery for writing that stupid article.

George Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 The only problem I see with the zombie theme is the requirement that it be all upper A/B shots. Everyone know that's the only way to send zombie's back where they came from ;-)
DMH Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 Zombies all the way!!! I've always wanted to be able to mow down zombies because it just makes sense to kill the undead a little more, (all that brain eating and stuff) and it's not like they're coherent enough to complain...
Rob Boudrie Posted March 1, 2006 Author Posted March 1, 2006 My bad. I forgot that New Orleans is, or at least was, a major voodoo center in addition to being in a flood plain.
Jake Di Vita Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 I can't believe the article was actually published in FS. I am actually dumber now for having read it.
AikiDale Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 (edited) It must be that Aiki harmony thing kicking in because I'm thinking Floodwater Zombies. Edited March 1, 2006 by AikiDale
diehli Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 It must be that Aiki harmony thing kicking in because I'm thinking Foodwater Zombies. WTF is "Foodwater"? Is that the condensation you get on the inside of a Tupperware container when you're microwaving something? And how, exactly, does that relate to zombies? BTW, I voted Zombies. Put a pink dot where the mouth would be so that they're bubble gum-chewing (and blowing) zombies. Ooh... staple small balloons where the mouth would be. Make sure someone's there to photo the stage and do a write-up on it (and the match). Include a Texas Star for good measure.
AikiDale Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 Oh, was there a typo? Or did the big ape just make it look like a typo to draw attention away from his BIPSC remarks? Film at 11:00.
Vlad Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 (edited) Wait .. Who says Zombies are not a realistic scenario ?? Just wonder around a collage campus around 4 in the morning and then tell me that zombies are the stuff of legends. That and the evil squirrels, but I'm afraid to talk about them. They might be reading this Edited March 1, 2006 by Vlad
dajarrel Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 As a Resident Evil fan, I like the Zombie idea. dj
JFD Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 Crap! I voted floodwaters until I remembered Zombies would piss off Avery! Go with Zombies, all upper A/B hits at close range. No matter how slow a zombie may be, they always end up surrounding the victim.
schoonie Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 Zombies, zombies, zombies !!!! Zombie swingers! Zombie sliders! Zombies on Texas stars! Zombie popups!
Rob Boudrie Posted March 1, 2006 Author Posted March 1, 2006 Go with Zombies, all upper A/B hits at close range. Did I mention this was a shotgun slug stage?
Bigbadaboom Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 Go with Zombies, all upper A/B hits at close range. Did I mention this was a shotgun slug stage? Go back up to my "Plate for a head" idea.
JFD Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 OK, medium range then Although everyone knows zombies are best wiped out with 00 Buck
