sandman_sy Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Hey guys, im a beginer that's having trouble with my reloading, especially if my mag is full (17 bullets max). My gun is a 40 caliber with majority of the parts STI. I see most of the competitors' guns have magwells, should i use one?? What are the advantages and disadvantages?? and what brand would be gr8t to use?? thanx y'all!
Loves2Shoot Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 If you practice you won't need one on a STI. The advantage is if you miss the magwell will help. The advatage is, if you don't use one you will probably practice more and have a better reload.

Or dont, but almost everybody does, because its just a game. do lots of dry fire mag changes and eventually you will probably not need one, but it does help to have one.
al503 Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 The magwell may also help you get a higher, more consistent grip.
HSMITH Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 If you are shooting in a division where a magwell is legal per the rules by all means GET ONE!!!! They won't make you a reloading superman. But they do tame the amount of times where your reload takes a plunging ride south in a basket......
diehli Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 To fit the box, the SV magwell will work without modification. The STI might require some modification. Those are your two best bets.
short_round Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 I use the STI stainless steel since it adds weight to the bottom of the gun. For me it makes the gun feel more balanced.
sandman_sy Posted February 28, 2006 Author Posted February 28, 2006 I've been brousing around on the net for a magwell, Yikes, a original magwell of STI cost 79.50!! by the way, when you say Magwell "ICE" what does it mean?? I'll probably be buyn a Dawson Precision for STI/SV Magwell. its on sale on Shootersconnection.com
ima45dv8 Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 The "Ice" has a plastic insert which can be replaced as it gets beat up from reloading. More info available here. Price is currently USD$69.99.
diehli Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 If you're shooting Standard, it's likely that the ICE won't fit the box.
infinity Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Sandman, i am also from the philippines...is ur gun STI?
Flexmoney Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Whether you have a magwell or not, you need to put the time in to learn the reload. Many get the magwell...and skip the learning.
sandman_sy Posted March 1, 2006 Author Posted March 1, 2006 (edited) I use to do 50 dry fire a day, now i do 30 dry fires and 30 reload drills, with 3 target, hav been practicing with the whole reload thing. If any of you guys hav any suggestion on how to practice reloading the right way, please, please post! thanx. BTW, i do my reload practice by engaging the 3 targets (2 shots each), quickly moving my weak hand to get the mag while the strong hand pushes the mag release, the sad thing is i lose time in inserting the mag:( I slow down right where i insert mag). I found out that i lose more time when i miss with the mag. Please help Edited March 1, 2006 by sandman_sy
Loves2Shoot Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 Patience and practice, if it were easy... You are losing out if you do't practice reloading from a table, kneeling, prone, moving left, moving right, backing up, moving forward, and sitting. just my 2 cents
hiropro Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 do you feel you need it. then get one if you do. It is a not a huge deal. what are your clubs rules on the mods of guns and if it changes the class.
