kevin c Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 (edited) My .22 Ruger has a sharply undercut post front sight that has a slight ding on the back edge. It makes the profile of the post, as seen through the rear sight notch, a little skewed. My question is how best to remedy this. Should I file down from the top? If I do so, should I file in the plane of the top of the sight, (which means removing a lot of metal by hand w/o a mill or jig to stay true)? Could I create a new angled flat at the rear/top of the sight? Should I file from the undercut area, and at what angle? Any particular bluing to refinish without glare? Or should I do the smart thing and call Ruger or Brownells for a new FS? TIA, Kevin Edited February 27, 2006 by kevin c
DMH Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 I had to replace the sight from a similar instance. Seemed like too much effort to me. If I remember correctly Ruger sent me a new sight for like $10 or something. If you search around you could probably get one with a fiber optic if you like.
