lndshrk Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 Grew up with Andy of Mayberry. As I age, find those actors that entertained me in my youth slowly passing away. Curious if he knew of his contribution to our sport?
walangkatapat Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 (edited) Don was a great comedian/actor, still like him most in the Ghost and Mr. Chicken and the Reluctant Astronaut. Darren McGavin has passed away as well. The Night Stalker was a great show, loved it as a kid, still do to this day. Christmas Story was a good flick. Edited February 26, 2006 by walangkatapat
Liota Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 Ghost and Mr Chicken was one of my favorite movies as a kid, along with The Incredible Mr. Limpet. Although, I was not a great fan of his character in Andy Griffith, he was a very talented man. Liota
AWLAZS Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 Barney was a leader in community policing "Nip it in the bud" Police have Barney rounds too. I love his stuff
Steve Moneypenny Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 and awesome physical comedian, he could make anything funny.... and screw anything up. Sad to see him go. I'm sure he will be remembered for his great works. TV land has been airing "tribute" commercials all day.
John Dunn Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 One of my favorite lines from "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken"...this may not be exact since it's been years since I've seen the movie... "The awefulness and terribleness of it all can actually never be forgotten." The was Mr. Chicken's attempt at journalism, and it struck me as funny enough to remember. RIP
ima45dv8 Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 I also grew up with the gang from Mayberry. One of things that stuck with me about these guys is how they were exact opposites off-screen. I saw a show once explaining how Don Knotts was uber laid-back and subdued. He would sit quietly in a chair on the set when he wasn't working and chat amiably with folks who would come by. Andy on the other hand was a almost a train wreck of nervous energy, always bouncing about, sometimes yelling, sometimes displaying frustration over silly things, or being just plain silly. I remember thinking how it showed what good actors they really were.
short_round Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 I loved his cameos on Scooby Doo ... I'll always remember his as "Ron Rotts."
BlackSabbath Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 I was sad to learn of his passing, I still watch the old black and white episodes. Don did something most entertainers hope to do, but never achieve. Immortality. R.I.P. Barney...you earned it.
