iainmcphersn Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 Well, I showed up to shoot the local IDPA club match tonight, only to find that the exhaust fans for the range were down so no match. There were string of emails sent out about the situtation but me and seven other guys didn't have time to check personal email this afternoon so we showed up anyway. Since the range is in the back of the largest gun store in town and they were still open, I got some browsing time in. I figured me and my buddy that rode with me were the only two who had not heard when I noticed another one of our shooters browsing. He and his buddy didn't know about the range situation either so we comiserated a bit and ended up talking guns. (Imagine that...) Pretty soon, we're off in the parking lot (non-traditional safe area) and I'm showing off the new TFO sights I have on my G19, my buddy (Darianis) is showing off the sights on his Para. Our two friends head back into the store for a little more browsing time when another regular shooter shows up. Funny thing as soon as we told him about the range being closed and comiserated about that again, we ended up talking guns again. (Strange how that happens.) Well, we sort of appointed ourselves the welcoming (or wave off) committe and hung around until 6:30 (match time) and gave the three other shooters who showed up the bad news. They must of had other things to do so they headed out and the three of us hit Krispy Kreme across the way and for donuts, coffee and a good bull session. I'd have rather shot tonight but if I can't shoot, chatting with other shooters is a good thing. Take care and shoot safe, John
Merlin Orr Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 Lemons to Lemonaide... Krispi Kreme - Ummmm...
Liota Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 (edited) John, It's a normal tale, except for the match cancelled part. It's good to know that standing out in front of an establishment talking for hours is a normal behavior for shooters. Yay! I'm a normal shooter!!... Glad you guys had fun anyway. eerw Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 ..I can remember many conversations on the way leaving the range or the local gunshop and leaving the parking lot 2 or 3 hours later....
kimel Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 I can remember many matches where the match got over at 3 PM and I ended up standing around shooting the breeze with some of the guys for many more hours. Shooters really are great folks.
stingerjg Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 I like shoot, im not the best at it. I mostly like matches as a social event. Its nice to share common interests w/ somone else.
carinab Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 Sometimes I'm not sure which I enjoy more, shooting the match itself or sitting around afterwards lying about it...
DMH Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 Sitting at Hooters, piles of wings, empty beer bottles and smelling like gunpowder while reliving your stage tragedies... The end to a good weekend.
tightloop Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 I like the sound of that...Hooters, cold beer, hot chicks and hotter wings.. Love it..
