PistolPete Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 I'm debating about which division I should get into when I start getting into 3 gun. I have an Infinity Limited gun that I've been using with a Brazos Race gun being built. I also have a JP Rifle being built which is where this question comes into place. The shotgun will be the deciding factor in the equation. I'll most likely build a JP shotgun but am unsure if I should go with an open shotgun or a limited one. I'm leaning towards limited to keep additional extras down such as mag tubes etc. I prob. won't be ordering a shotgun for a little while but want to start thinking of which avenue to persue. If I go with a JP limited shotgun will I be able to upgrade it to open in the future or will I need to buy another shotgun? Thanks in advance, Pete
D.Hayden Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 Pete, start with Tactical. I know people that have the exact same rifle barrel-wise, comp wise , one is open, another tactical, the only realy difference is the Open rifle has a side dot, and the tactical rifle has a side sight, or nothing. There's an art to reloading an Open shotgun (at least to do it well)... there's pieces flying everywhere , or lots of cursing if they don't. You probably have all the equipment to shoot tactical... you're just going to have to jump in there and try it.
.40AET Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 Hey Pete- I've been dealing with the same questions. Even with an open and limited pistol in hand, my first thoughts have been to go with tactical to start. I have no clue about glass for the rifle, so I bought the 1.5-5 Simmons that's been recommended. I can't get a handle on shooting an open shotgun and I'm not crazy about running around with a hot open gun in a Ghost holster. I'm more inclined to shoot limited before open, but I just don't shoot iron sights very well on a rifle. Decisions decisions decisions.
