Unleashed Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 I recently purchased a brand new bbl for my 870 so I can start the "He-Man" games! I opted for the rifle sights because I couldn't find one that had a vent rib, was the right length and had the Rem-Choke feature. I guess I was asking for too much! Here is my question: I have tried getting the platforms for the rifle sights off to no avail. I have heated them up extensively, assuming that they are held on with silver solder. They won't budge at all. Does anyone have a suggestion for getting the front and rear sight platforms off the bbl? I would also like to get a vent rib installed on the bbl with a fiber optic up front. Can anyone suggest someone that could do this? Any help is greatly appreciated! If there is nothing I can do to fix this, does anyone know where I could get the above bbl specs with vent rib and remchoke? Thanks, Edwin
Religious Shooter Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 You didn't say how long you wanted the barrel to be... But say you want a 20-22" vent rib barrel. If I was in your shoes I would either: 1. Contact Remington and try to buy a barrel for a 870 Express Turkey (21"): http://www.remington.com/products/firearms...ress_turkey.asp 2. Sell you current 870 and get the 870 Express Turkey. 3. Buy a 24+ inch vent rib 870 barrel and send it off to a gunsmith (Briley?) to chop and rethread for chokes. ... and then add the FO sight and stuff you wanted. Or you can stick with the rifle sights. It's really easy to change the front sight to FO on the factory Remmies equipped with the rifle sights. Just drift off the front sight and install a Hiviz. http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/pro...?p=9506&s=23509 On my 1100 it was slightly loose. I used some aluminum foil as a shim but I eventually just glued it on since I use the rear for windage. You can either take off the rear sight or just hog it out with a dremel (like I did) and use it in conjunction with the front sight.
