MyBoyElroy
Well the thread title about sums up the question. How CAN a carry sling be mounted to a Briley Speedoption forend? Yankee Hill has a swivel that might work. Anybody got the good answer?
George
Get an Uncle Mikes QD sling mount for a bolt rifle. Drill hole where you want it and bolt it in place (use blue loctite).
MyBoyElroy
Will the carbon fiber hold threads? Or does it need to be reinforced on the under side? ETA NEVER MIND! THOSE WEREN'T THREADS I WAS LOOKING AT! Looks like the base glues to the carbon fiber. Hmmm... http://www.uncle-mikes.com/adtemplate.asp?...bcatky2=2000188 Thank you. Religious Shooter
It probably can be threaded directly to the handguard (HG). But will it be strong enough? NOPE!!! You will need backing inside the handguard for strength. You might want to contact Benny Hill to attach it for you. I don't know how he made it but he has a backing "plate" that conforms to the inside diameter of the HG and acts as a huge square "washer" that helps support the attachment. You can go ghetto and just drill a hole through the HG and use a QD stud and attach it to a crushable washer (large as possible) and a nut. kdmoore
I drilled and tapped my handguard (carbon fiber but diff company makes it). I have a stud for my bipod. I sling with a single point. I can tell you it is plenty strong. My thought is .. if it fails I'll get a backer bolt/plate then, but for now, strong as ever. When I bought mine, the guy said that others had done this and were running solid after 3 years. I know it's not apples to apples, but if I needed a sling or rails or ?? I wouldnt hesitate to tap another hole.
George
The QD sling stud I am recommending is a bolt and nut setup not a wood screw type. http://www.uncle-mikes.com/adtemplate_chil...bcatky2=2000181
MyBoyElroy
Living as I do in the Shade Tree Ghettotm of north Texas it makes sense to let Benny do it. Group I shoot with requires long arms have a carry sling. Don't want to get DQ'ed for dumping a gun in the dirt. Will keep lookng but Benny seems the best plan.
