schmitz
A good friend of mine is moving to Utah next year for study. He's my pupil in shooting overhere in the Netherlands. We're working his skills and he's currently shooting our Club Sig P210 and he does well. He absorbed the Burkett DVD's and is into "It"... What I like to know: which Clubs are recommandable in the Salt Lake Area. Thx in advance. Henny. Edited February 7, 2006 by schmitz
smokshwn
Henny We have 3 very good USPSA clubs near SLC. Two are within 20 minutes and one is just a little over an hour away. You can see more info at Utah Shooters. There is also a very good shooting club that holds 3gun, IDPA, ICORE, and generalized fun matches also about an hour away. Utah Defensive Pistol League. There is also the Utah Multigun Association which holds 3 gun matches on a pretty regular basis. Keep in touch and we will definitely get him shooting while he's here. Where will he be studying? the U? Take care, Craig
Joep
I finally found my way in the forum. Thanks for the question and thanks for the Utah shooting links. I will be going to Cedar City to study for about one year and I would like to keep training while I'm there. I will make sure to check out those links you gave me, they look promising. Thanks again, Joep

smokshwn
Joep, Cedar City is actually about 3 hours south of Salt Lake so it may be a little longer drive for you to get here. However I do know there is a club near St George Utah which will only be about 45 minutes away from you. I think the club name is Southern Utah Pistol and Revolver. Club info is on the USPSA.org website in the Utah section. Also in CC you are only 2 hours away from Vegas and their club shoots every Sunday www.sincityshooters.com. They are a great bunch of guys as well. Take care and let me know when you get stateside. Craig Edited February 6, 2006 by smokshwn
Joep
Hi Graig, Yeah I already figured it would be a too much to drive to SLC every now and then. St. George sounds great and Las vegas probably is a lot of fun. Since I don’t have a social security number I cannot buy any fire arms in a store. Do you maybe have some advice for dealing with that issue? My father has a ranch near Kanab, UT and the local sheriff told me it would be advisable to not travel out of state with fire arms, since I’m a foreigner. He basically told me I have the same rights as any American as far as his jurisdiction is concerned. So travelling might not be very wise? Thanks again for the quick reply and I appreciate your help, Best wishes, Joep

smokshwn
Don't let Kimel get you scared. It takes a touch more effort but I can get you drinking in a hurry here in the repressed state Craig

If you are traveling in another state with firearms, abide by the rules of that state. If they want travelers to carry everything in the trunk, carry them in the trunk. Just check the requirements of the states you want to travel in. www.packing.org is a place to begin getting that sort of information. Only in the eastern part of the country are there real issues with the transportation of firearms. Places like Illinois or Mass or New York or DC - the kinds of places where most nice people don't go anyway.
Joep
Hey you guys, Not finding a bar in Utah is no problem for me . Utah has so many other things to offer that I can handle the lack (or absence) of bars. I don't think there is anything better in life that enjoying a nice cold beer, while sitting on the edge of a cliff, on a beautifull evening, overlooking a hundred miles of breathtaking landscape. Anyways enough about the beer, I'm getting thirsty and its only 2.00 o'clock. Thanks for the tip on travelling with arms in different states. I will make sure to check that website you recommended. I guess I should be fine, even as a foreigner, as long as I abide by the same rules and regulations that apply to you. Thanks and good luck improving you scores, Joep Edited February 13, 2006 by Joep
