I have a power point presentation that was professionally done in 2002 that I use to teach my pepper spray class at the jail with. It has several slides that contain mpeg video clips and plays fine on just about every computer I try it on except my new laptop that runs xp and media player 10. whenI get to a video slide it says that powerpoint has experienced an error and needs to close. I send a report to microsoft and follow the links they suggest and they claim it is an mpeg codec problem but their download doesn't solve the problem.

How can I find out what codec I need?

I'm desperate I have to teach this class in another week and really need this laptop as it has all the associaed class materials installed on it.

Thanks Eric

Media Player 10 crashes my box every time I use it. Freezes and takes a power button shut down to unfreeze the damn thing. Have you tried the MS Update page for your PP?

Delete ver. 10 and load ver. 9 off the net??

I did try the Microsoft update and that did not help. I like some of the features in version 10 is there a way to load version 9 and only use it for power point?

You just went past my little knowledge of the subject. I am sure some of the froum computer heavyweights will weigh in with the good stuff soon... :)

If you can find a download of WMP9 (it was available as a separate download at one point years ago), you could uninstall 10 and install 9. I have no idea if there's a current source for WMP9 downloads though.

One thing to try is making sure WMP10 think's it's fully set up-- open it up and see if it'll play the files directly. Sometimes WMP10 will get stuck thinking its not done setting up yet.

Yes wmp10 will play the files directly is there goanna be any way to perhaps disable wmp10 instead of losing it and having to rebuild all my play lists?

Eric

Install another player and set it as the default to open WMP files? The MSPP would probably work with something else. I gave up and now use ACDSee as my default player.

You mean change power point to use a different player as the default right? How does one do that I played around with it but can't figure this one out.

ERic

Go to a mpeg video clip saved on your computer - right click - select "Open With" - select "Choose Program" -then - FIRST you check the little box below the window showing your choices that says "Always use this program to open this type of file" - then select the player you wish to open mpeg video clip files - ......Once this is done it will be the default player for your mpeg video clips.

Changed all the files as advised above and the based on another suggestion from the run menu went to mplay32.exe which is the video player Power Point uses and this way the vids still will not play any more suggestions?

Thanks for the help so far.

Eric
