MWP Posted November 27 Posted November 27 Ok it’s been a minute since we have really discussed gear and I think it’s time to reevaluate some equipment for the next season. For uspsa/icore/wrc/ipsc I am using a full DAA belt setup with individual posts and the Alpha X. For steel challenge I am using a Hogue belt, moonclip holders and the Hogue Powerspeed, custom built for my carbon fiber barreled 929s. For idpa- I have both an older comp tac and blade tech holsters for N and L frames. For moons- California Competition works 6 shot holders, and for speed loaders some very old Blade Tech custom jobs that I’m not sure they ever sold publicly. Very curious to know what everyone else is using today for the new shooters. All us regulars know the common stuff and it’s all almost always buy once cry once for good gear, but I’m not sure who is making what for next season. Is anyone making idpa legal moonclip and speed loader carriers anymore?
pskys2 Posted November 27 Posted November 27 (edited) Midwest competition used to? I spent the last 3 days thinking about gear upgrades. Decided i am going to spend the money on lead instead! ?my main holster is the daa racer x with muzzle extension, but I had to work on the fit of the mechanism to stop my 627 PC from sticking. Wonder if the alpha x would have the same issue, or does it have some way to adjust. Thought of a wsm ll as the std wsm ll for semiauto utilizes spacers for that issue. Daa belt, racer x holster, nm 4 post moon clip or revolver supply both no longer made. 2nd rig for classic is daa belt, discontinued blade tech kydex holster on a wallgren hanger, and a mix of California gun works slip on moon clip carriers with center post removed and safariland Speedloader clip ons with a block to keep my loads stable and wire ties for extra security, do this because my classic gun is a m28 using comp lll Speedloadeers and 38 short colts not standard but it works. Can swap between classic and my 625 for limited 6, for local matches where we can shoot 2 divisions. Edited November 27 by pskys2
Dr. Phil Posted November 27 Posted November 27 I got the Moonclip Server for ICORE. Works with my 929 and 686Plus. Set up for strong hand reloads. For Steel Challenge I use a Speed Beez 8 post rack for the 929. I set the used clips back on the post to keep them straight and not get lost. Both seem to be about the same for reload speed for plate matches so it doesn't seem to matter. Holsters for both are DAA Racer with muzzle post.
Toolguy Posted November 27 Posted November 27 (edited) For holsters, especially if you have a Hogue PowerSpeed, (lookin at you, MWP) I make a revo adapter that makes it so you can have one holster for all your revos. This is especially nice if you shoot more than one gun in the same match. It takes a few seconds to go from one gun to another, and you only have one holster to get used to using. It is totally secure when locked and super fast to draw from. This holster works great for everything but IDPA. There are pictures on www.protocalldesign.com. Edited November 27 by Toolguy

MikeyScuba Posted November 27 Posted November 27 As my old belt's velcro was staring to go so I got a DAA Lynx belt with the ratchet. I just tried it Sat and it works well. Seems to be a bit heavier but it's not a deal breaker for flying. Otherwise same old ****
Couch-Commando Posted November 27 Posted November 27 I'm using a DAA belt and Alpha X holster, with a Midwest Competition moonclip holder. I had issues with moonclips falling off, and they sent another set of magnets to increase the magnetism. If that doesn't work, I'm probably going to put that in the closet until I upgrade to a 45 ACP and build an old fashioned moon clip holder with the angled posts that retain the clip. I'm still experimenting with a home made speed loader pouch for classic. I've come up with a system using a new QD clip form Blade Tech that will let me quick swap the moon clip holder and my hypothetical DIY speed loader holder so I can shoot the same gun in classic and limited 6.
Squirrel45 Posted November 27 Posted November 27 Aside from the usual stuff people are running, the only major difference for me this year was switching to a ratchet belt.

I ordered a DAA Flex with the inserts that are supposed to fit (lots of pieces and parts) a 627 and the muzzle adaptor. I should know soon if the fit is correct. If anyone is thinking of adding anything from Double Alpha, they have a sitewide sale of from 5 to 15%discount depending on the size of the order. I shot a WRC Match in Phoenix last week and many there seemed happy with that holster, although most weren't using the muzzle support. I am new enough to the Revolver world I am gong with the support. We shall see. I will post what my result is.

There’s nothing wrong with Safariland comp IIIs after cut down. I use the Safariland holders. Bill thinks they’re janky and he prefers the Revo-gear brand. I fly a lot for majors and I should get a lynx belt since it’s smaller but it’s hard to justify spending money when my belt works.
testosterone Posted November 27 Posted November 27 I keep sort of wanting to have a straight drop kydex holster but I keep coming up short of someone who will make on for custom barreled gun. Its hard to leave power speed though, i have a poor reaction time and their simply is nothing faster than a power speed, it just comes out the front with something that is not quite a scoop draw but pretty close. I still use my original speederack that was modified by my to use magnets. Another holster I have been considering is like the old manny/usa 2011 holster. Their are a few european companies that make them and in the us Everglades does, but none of them will make me one for an n frame. https://www.evergladesammo.com/everglades-magnetic-race-holster.html This is pretty much a daa but comes out with zero resistance. I probably wont change. I switched through cmore 2 moa to eotech then back to cmore when f&n left irc and most recently have been using 1 moa sro for a few years now. Will probably stay with it at this point though i never shot better than I did with the eotech on the gun. I know it has zero to do with it but if you believe it, its true....
MikeyScuba Posted November 27 Posted November 27 2 moa? I tried that diode and it was awful. I have 4’s on all my sliderides. Anyone want a free 6moa? I have LOTS.
