Trader
9mm or .38 super is what top shooters all use. .38 spl for revolvers.. Not aware of anyone using .
Toolguy
A .40 or .45 works fine. A shooter starting out doesn't need the max best thing just to shoot the match.
practical_man
Toolguy is right…just run what ya got for a while. For Tyros like me, experience pays more dividends than optimized equipment. Toolguy knows of what he speaks. He’s the inventor of the Mover Sight Base you often see on Bianchi Open Guns. He’s an all around good guy too! 20 hours ago, Toolguy said: A .40 or .45 works fine. PK1911
thanks for your replys. I am thinking of 2025 for my first match. my 40 is more accurate than my 9mm, so maybe I'll use it. does the competitor shoot the entire match in one day?
Toolguy
The Bianchi Cup National Championship is now shot over 2 days, used to be 3 days. There is another day for the awards banquet at the end. Most of the local and regional Action Pistol matches are one day. There are 4 courses of fire consisting of 48 rounds each, for a total of 192 shots. At 10 points possible per shot, the maximum score is 1920. It would be a good plan if you can shoot a few local sized matches before the Nationals, to get a feel of the match. You are correct to use your most accurate gun.
