VABowler
Unfired .40 S & W round in my unfired ammo set aside in plastic cartridge case discharged destroying case, scatering surrounding rounds, and discharged round was fragmented apart sending the bullet five yards out onto the shooting range while the fragmented case flew over behind the next shooter beside me. It no longer had a primer and couldn't be found. This "Bizzar" incident happened to me at our local I door shooting range today and I was uninjured. Shooting Range Business Manager deduced either one in a million chance an ejected shell case either hit the primer setting it off or a still hot case after firing touched a primer to ignite. Either case it was extremely rare as I've never seen or heard of such a thing happening. I've concluded to never store ammunition ready for consumption in a primer up position without adequately covered --have all ammo if open and exposed bullet up/primer facing down.
