Finally getting back into competition (East Texas)

After a 10 year hiatus due to starting a remodeling business I'm finally getting the time and interest back to shoot.

I'm 42 and have been shooting since I was probably 6 years old and started shooting club events at 12. Generally I shoot single stack as 1911 pistols are what I have gravitated towards since I was a child. I reside in the Cherokee county area of Texas and looking to find events to shoot and fellow shooters to practice with.

East Texas Rifle and Pistol in Longview is a nice club with nice facilities if the wind isn't blowing to hard.

If you want to drive a little further East Bossier Parish Practical Shooters is just East of Shreveport.

I have thought about shooting more than single stack, maybe this p80 clone of a G17 I built.

When I stopped shooting single stack 10 years ago there was only 2 of us at the places I shot

SS is still the same.  All the heat is in Carry Optics, so either get that P80 milled for a dot or get an already milled slide from Brownells.

A Trijicon SRO is what you want.

  • 2 weeks later...

Depending on if you shoot IDPA or not, there are 3 club match matches a month in the area, and 1 USPSA match that has already been mentioned.

1st Sat-Longview IDPA

2nd Sat-Angelina Rifle and Pistol in Lufkin (my home club)

3rd Sat-5H Shooting Range in Frankston

4th Sat-Longview USPSA
