DLC/Hard Chrome on Frame Rails?

I've heard that DLC and hard chrome are excellent finishes, but I'm wondering if I have these applied to a frame's rails will it stop the wear from the slide or will the coating come off a soon as the slide begins to cycle?

No experience with DLC but have years on open pistols with Hard Chrome. Am very happy with the HC, wear is very minimal and is easy to clean. If the HD gets a small scratch, it can be buffed and removed, I've gotten over the scratches. I'm building a Limited pistol and am toying around with a DLC finish, because I want a black pistol? Have heard nothing but good about it.

Thanks for sharing your experience with HC. Does HC also work in the frame rails, or the minute the slide cycles the HC is gone?

"Real" dlc will not scratch, period, we run it on piston pins in 3000HP blown alky motors, they look brand new after removal. A lot of the stuff they use on guns (glock etc) is not the same coating.

The HC stays put, even on the rails. I used Advanced Weapons Plating, great work.

Great news. It doesn't start coming off the rails after a certain amount of rounds? Do you happen to have the link/contact info for AWP?

DLC is friggin' expensive.....  I think APW is quoting $650 for a handgun.

Wow. I pay $215 per gun. Problem is all DLC and PVD providers are not created equal. There are well known companies like Richter and their PVD finishes are decorative at best. True PVD finishes are unbelievably tough. The problem is all the companies I deal with do not work with the general public. FFL’s only.
