ysrracer
Anybody using it in 9mm? .38? Is there any advantage over 231? My local store has a crap load of 244, zero 231. What are you guys thinking?
SuperKing
It's supposedly HP-38/231 with fouling eraser additives in it. I don't notice a difference between it and HP-38. I even ended working up my load to the exact same weight as my HP-38 loads (3.8gr and 125gr RN coated bullet). Same PF average at 135. I switched to it because HP-38/231 was hard to come by at the time and still seems like I can get 244 easier, so I am sticking with it. ysrracer
Thanks, so you're saying you're using the same charge weight with the same results? All my local stores have 244, none have
rishii
Pretty much my experience also load data between 231/244 is pretty close if not the same
ysrracer
Thanks guys, like I said most of the stores near me have 244, nobody has 231.
Guy Neill
When I originally tested 231 vs 244, the charge weights were the same, but 244 gave higher velocities. Load Number 231 SD 244 SD 1 638.5 30.2 972.0 23.2 2 713.7 240.3 1012.5 17.5 3 766.6 20.0 1069.5 13.6 4 794.0 56.5 1123.8 10.8 These are 9mm Luger using 124 coated bullets fiured from a SA Loaded pistol. OnePivot
244 has bizarrely low es, even with a charge that's maybe not so consistent. Whatever they added, it worked! I'm still on the fence. Its super dense but the charge weights are low. 4.0gr is a pretty empty case, and it's dark in color. It's a bit hard to see. My autodisk would throw 3.9gr using the smallest hole. I got an auto drum instead, but it's still a bit odd. Terrible in 45acp, it blows unburnt chunks all over my arms. It wants some pressure to burn up, so i bet 38spl is the same deal. That’s what I found also. When I first started I thought the recoil was fairly sharp. Well there was good reason because of the increased velocities. I did notice it will get sooty like 231 when at low psi but not as bad. Works very good in my 327 FM and even 10mm 165g coated loads. Orlandoech
Better than 231 for sure, barely and cleaner. It’s my 3rd reserve powder behind Sport Pistol, then N320.
