It sucks, I was trying to decide what to make my last major of the year. I've been really wanting to shoot another one. I haven't shot much this year. It was between NC and VA, I decided on VA because it would be easier to pull off. Now I've set my schedule around that and wont get to do either.

If I were to guess, staffing issues. I worry the way the MD situation changed hands may or lead to the staff shortages.

It changed this year or do you mean from Dave last year to Gary this year?

There might be a spot or two at the TN section match on 9/17.  It's in Oak Ridge so there's that.

I've already set my work schedule for sept.

Shadow Hawk decided they're going to run a Big level one now on that weekend now. Supposed to be 10-11 stages shooting on Saturday and Sunday. I'll probably just do that instead, it's just as far costs less and will probably be on par with the what the state match would of been.

also, fredericksburg emailed saying they're going to hold a regular match that weekend with i believe seven of the stages that were going to be in the va state match.  any final word on why that match was cancelled, it looked pretty full and i never saw any emails asking for staff help.

I haven't heard a official reason. I did see requests for staff help on facebook.

I shot the last one at Shadow Hawk. There were a couple things I didn't like but overall it was good and worth the trip. I hear Dave is doing the stages, he usually does a good job with stages so I expect this one to be better than the last.

The things I didn't like, spinny target didn't work. My squad was first there, so he had to try to figure it out only to determine it couldn't be done. Swinger behind the wall was could get hits on it through the wall which shouldn't count. Similarly the star setup you could hit plates through the wall and no one would know. Wasn't a fan of the memory style 1 shot per stage.

Otherwise the stages were pretty challenging and I'd still say it was worth the 4.5 hour drive and a stay in a airbnb with friends to shoot it.

yep i hate the memory crap. and while i love texas stars, i hate when they're occluded, just too much variability in when the plates present themselves.

Impossible! I've been told repeatedly for probably 20 years that Texas Stars have no deviation or variability whatsoever.

never seen a Texas star be scored correctly for an entire squad. And this includes Nationals.
Fun targets, shouldnt be used at Majors.
Seems either a plate doesnt fall when hit, or a plate falls when it wasnt hit by a bullet... Like an upper plate falls and hits and knocks off a lower plate...  Both are REF, but dont get called all the time. All the reshoots would stop the match

I thought the only steel approved for upper level matches were the poppers. Not true?

Edit to add: After checking the rulebook I'm not seeing anything that says that... not sure where that thought came from.

Yes. I checked the rules right after I posted and obviously I was mistaken.

However it seems like a Texas Star at an upper level match is asking for trouble.

Maybe that's just because the Stars that I have been involved with seem to be error prone with multiple plates falling for one hit, erratic starting positions, etc.

I think it's generally frowned on due to potential issues. Nothing better than watching someone reshoot a stage several times due to REF.

Happened to my wife once at a sectional. Shot a long field course that included a long run down range. When they scored they said she needed to reshoot due to the plate. She reloaded and went last. Same thing happened. Now we had to stuff her mags and she had to run it again still winded from the last attempt. Now with multiple squads watching because of the back up  the stage was creating. She really struggled that last time, slowest run of all of them with the worst hits yet. But at least it counted because we probably would of ran out of ammo if she had to keep shooting it. Not a good experience for her.

Agreed. Not in the rules but not a good idea. In Majors I MD I only use poppers of some type. No stars, no plates
