Who makes 1911 grips that are as close as possible to PT Evo grips by size? I am trying to set up my SS gun as close as possible to my Limited gun

Evo is the widest grip out there. They are related but not the same. I don't think you'll feel close enough to feel they are still similar

I use an arched main spring housing and the DS perman grips. I have some thick aluminum hogue grips that you can try if you want. no obligation.

Are those DS Perman grips still being made?  My Google search turned up nothing.

My attempt to make my 1911 as large as possible is with Thick Armanov Spidergo grips, + Pearce finger grooves, which add to the front strap but also a tiny bit of width. I'll add an arched mainspring later, along with a large magwell that will give the bottom of my hand more purchase too. The Dawson magwell will knock out both of these.    These changes make room for the weak hand, but do almost nothing to increase the distance from the backstrap to the trigger. Large hands often have long fingers, ya know?   That's one thing I think Glock got seriously right, by providing different thickness backstraps that have the beavertail, increasing that particularly critical distance.

Have you thought about using a spacer between the grips and frame made out of the material of your choice?

That is not a bad idea. At least just to try and see what thickness works the best

I mean, if you have some grips in the type of texture you prefer, make an outline of them on cardboard to find the thickness you feel most comfortable with. If this works then maybe try reproducing that level of thickness onto sheet aluminum. The extra weight shouldn't be a concern.

The super thick Hogue G10 scales have tons of material you can shape to your liking. I did that when I couldn't get ahold of any DSPerman grips. Hard to replicate micro pockets though.

It's not quite the PT Evo but you can carve away without emptying your wallet.

in fact, the extra weight would be an added bonus. I'm still looking for some kind of steel bolt-on magwell (like the dawson ipsc magwell, but steel, and maybe bigger (and heavier), but not as big as the ICE.

Gah, it's $200 but it's steel. I used one a decade ago. It's good for smaller hands as it covers the grips slightly.
