Leather Lined Kydex Competition Holster

Safariland used to make, I believe, a suede lined kydex holster. I didn’t care for mine because the liner material added too much drag to my draw. I’m also not bothered by holster wear to my gun’s finish

I went to the Ghost Holster site; could not find any. However, it could be “operator error” on my part.😀

Yeah, their website is pretty crummy.  If you Google Ghost Holsters Direct some websites will come with the

description of their holsters being lined with " Ledrn " which is a artificial leather. It's there but you  have to hunt for it.

Also Google Ghost holsters with lining.

Their Safari Seven material is much more friendly to gun finishes and it’s slick. If you can find the right holster.

I've got a new Ghost Holster Thunder Elite model inbound, should be here in a day or two.  It has the Ledra lining as others have mentioned.  My intent is to use this for a new Shadow 2 OR I just got and will be used as my new primary rig for USPSA CO.  The lining sounded like an interesting concept and I like the look of the holster.  I'm interested to see how it performs and holds up under USPSA heavy use conditions.

I looked at the Garrett holsters, however, I didn’t see a competition type holster. Theirs all seem to be more carry holsters.

This one looks exactly like every other competition type holster I've seen.  The only possible downside is that they don't seem to be drilled for the BladeTech hanger pattern that we're so used to.  Something that could be easily fixed with a drill, a cheap plastic BladeTech hanger, and 15 minutes of time

I would be very much interested to hear how you like it.

I did not see that adapter; may be just the ticket. I like low cut front of their holster.

Also, their holster has a lock which I find more comfortable. May give it a shot.

Regarding the Ghost Thunder Elite, lined with Ledra...
1. What I liked...
a. Ordered the holster on Friday, received it the following Thursday with standard shipping fee, so good service/speed on shipping the order.
b. I liked the look of the holster.  The material they use (not Kydex) has a cool looking texture and fit and finish of construction looked good.
2. What I didn't like...
a. Fit of my gun (CZ Shadow 2) was rather tight and even backing adjustments off all the way made little difference.  I would not recommend this holster for USPSA or IDPA type competition as it's not built for a fast draw.  Also, it lacked any positive retention of the gun (no click fit) other than the tight friction fit.
b. Didn't like the Ledra lining for USPSA type use, which is what they advertise this holster as being designed for and what I planned to use it for.  They describe Ledra as being a synthetic material, so I was expecting something a little slick to aid in a fast draw.  However, it looked like a thin sheet of rough leather (sort of rough, almost ragged, like the backside of finished leather).  Also, the Ledra was only applied to protect the frame part of the gun, with no Ledra up around the slide.  The top of the slide on my gun was actually shaving of small pieces of the holster every time I holstered it.  I'm guessing the Ledra added to the tight fit and slow draw characteristics, so the holster might be good without the Ledra lining if it had some good retention other than a tight fit.

I have Ghost mag pouches and have been using them for several years with good success, so I know Ghost does make some good products.  Also, I give them Kudo's for good customer service.  I phoned the day after I received the holster and told them my observations and that I needed to return the holster.  They said no problem and quickly processed my return and sent me a pre-paid shipping label to send it back.  I received an emai with the label just after I hung up the phone with them and I had the refund in my account by the end of the same day.

So, while I recommend the Ghost company for some products, their Thunder Elite holster is a no go for competition in my book.

Thanks for the detailed review. Saves me an expensive experiment. Much appreciated. It sounds like you and I are on the same quest.

I assume if I use this holster for competition, I should not order the sweat guard? Am I correct?

Mine has the sweat guard, and , for me, not an issue.
