2020 HK USP 45 . . . too tight?

I have quite a few revolvers and pistols, shoot a Sig P230 X5 Legion in competition, but never owned or shot a H&K. Then, a few weeks ago, this 2020 date-coded H&K USP 45 showed, up, pretty in the box, presumably never been shot and quite affordable (I live in California), so I bought it.

I have not shot it yet, but played with it a bit with snap caps. When the slide is all the way back, the slide release engaged, I cannot get it to release by just *trying* to pull the lever down with my thumb. I have to do both at the same time, pull the slide all the way back and engage the slide release lever, in order for the slide to be released. The lever alone won't move without me pulling the slide back. I find that strange and wonder if that's an H&K thing or something that has to do with the fact that the gun is new and super tight.

Thank you.

Probably just because it is new. Snap caps don’t feed like real ammo does. I personally try not to drop the slide with a snap cap because of that. I also try not to drop the slide without a magazine and a dummy round (actual ammo with no primer or powder). I personally use that lever mainly just to hold the slide open to inspect or work on the gun, I don’t use it really to close the slide ever unless I have to one handed for some reason which really doesn’t come up very often.

With a full mag of actual ammo, locked-open slide, and a brisk reload (slam the mag home) every HK polymer pistol I have ever owned- USP’s, USPC’s, HK45’s, VP series and P30 series, all will drop the slide on impact.  This is quite a time-saver on slide-lock reloads.

I know this is an old thread but since someone else already revived it... Mine is pretty smooth, slide falls no problem with the release. The safety is a hair tight though. Just my 2 cents...
