Cowguy
Are they really the same? Just went through alliants load data and didn’t see clay dot in 45 auto. I know it’s supposed to replicate clays according to the advertisement. But before I blow up my gun, or my head up, does anyone have experience? Hammerman
I've done direct swaps between the two in shotguns and 45. No problems on my reloads. This was with the Australian clays though. The Canadian clays doesn't seem to be as hot. I had to go up .3 grains in 45 to make pf.
Farmer
The way I understand it is the Canadian Clays isn’t as dense as Australian Clays and that’s where the differences are. I know Alliant claims an even swap but they don’t say for which one.
zzt
When Clay Dot first came out I tried some. CD and Aus Clays produced the same velocity weight for weight. That being said, this is valid only for the two lots of powder used. Remember, Canister grade powders are allowed to vary in a range of 25 fps and 2500 psi. The variance is typically much smaller than that, but you still should check.
