Blackhawk Axiom Adjustable Stock.  VERY lightwieght with adjustable stock........out of the box ready to go.  They can be hard to find these days but Optic Planet says they have a few in stock.  $70 bucks hard to beat.  Several SCSA World records were set with this stock.

I can vouch for that. It's the one I use. You may have to hunt around to find the right cheek riser if he needs one.

Are you saying that the magazine shattered into three pieces when you cleaned the wax ring inside them?  Did you use a cotton ball or a Q-Tip or something soft like that to clean them?  That's a catastrophic failure for sure...  Maybe the ultrasonic cleaner affected the plastic?

No.  The only thing that shattered was the plastic around the hole that holds the feed lips.

Ultrasonic cleaning did not remove the carbon or wax, but it did make it softer.  I removed the carbon from above that hole with the equivalent of a Q-tip wet with solvent.  I used a rotary motion instead of back and forth.  The wax rings top and bottom were removed with a cloth and solvent.  I also did the same with the rotors, although they did not appear to have any residue on them.

I went with the Axiom to start with, because I was building a super light gun.  I didn't like it.  Too jiggly.

I’m going to get a hold of my dads old 10/22 that he taught me on for my son. Anyone have recommendations for conversion kits?

When I suggested looking at the Axiom stock it was primarily with your son in mind as an inexpensive but effective stock to start with before jumping straight into the higher cost Wiland and other lighter aluminum chassis.  I have my original Axiom stock that I will be setting up for my 6 yr old grandaughter as an example.  My current chassis' are Wiland and Crazy Ivan.  Good luck with your son's set up.

Mine was too. I switched to a Mission First Tactical Minimalist Stock and that made it solid.

Sky's the limit! Best to decide what you want to use it for. If it's for a youngster, you'll need a smaller stock. You can look around at youth stocks for a 10/22. Wiland makes a stock that is adjustable and can grow with him. But it is pricey.  https://wilandusa.com/modular-chassis-systems/

There are others I'm sure. Nice thing about a chassis rather than a wood stock is that many are adjustable. When he hits his growth spurt, you don't need a new stock.

For internals, my advice is don't skimp. The better stuff works better and goes together easier. I use Kidd. I initially used the OEM receiver and it was OK but now I am going to replace it with a Kidd.

If your son is just learning, use the OEM barrel. You can easily swap it out later on if you want to.

Summary: Youth stock, Kidd internals in stock receiver, OEM barrel

Hope this helps.

You are a life saver. Thank you!. Adding these to my list.

I will also echo the Wiland chassis.  lots of adjustability points

The Axiom is fine for now but I'm gong to end up with one too. I can feel it in my bones. The adjustability makes it worthwhile. I've had to chase my tail and spend too much money and time trying it get stocks with RDS to fit me.

I considered all the chassis options while I was deciding.  I didn't like the Wiland because you have to remove the barrel clamp every time you want to clean.  It also has too much hardware and weight out back.  With the Kidd you use any carbine buffer tube and stock.  I went with a Smoke Composite carbon fiber tube/stock.  Super light.  Super rigid.  I can toe it out to match my shoulder pocket and not have to put up with excess weight.  It shoulders just like my PCC.  That's what I wanted.

How in the world can you make a 10-22 run 99% of the time.

I don't know where you live but does it get cold? While liviing in central Wisconsin, my 10/22s and 22 pistols would not run well when it got cold. When it warmed up, they went back to100%. The temp drop would be from + 50 to 40's or less. A poster noted he/she sprays their 10/22 with dry lube. That works better than wet lube when it's cold.

I noticed when I tried one of the TK feed lips that the large peg at the end of the feed lip fit really tight so I wonder if that stressed your mags. I have cracked a good number of the TK doubles but never where you describe.

Another chassis to consider that also follows the same strategy that @zzt ( Steve ) suggested is Taccom.   There offerings work with any buffer tube / butt plate setup and there offer their own adjustable accessories as well.   You can setup your PCC and .22 Rifle almost identical.

I like the WD40 Specialist dry lube w/ ptfe for the trigger assembly, but use Mobile1 0W-16 synthetic motor oil on the bolt. An $8 quart at Wal-Mart will last you forever. It's the ticket, especially in cold weather.

The large hole was very tight on all the mags in question.  It is possible that contributed to the cracking on three of them.  I did check the remaining nine and they were fine.  The replacement shells TK sent are no where near as tight.  In fact, you have to carefully hold the feed lips in place when trying to put the cover on.

FWIW, I use Weapon Shield lube on everything.  The coldest temp I've shot my 10/22 in a match was 25F.  It ran 100%.  I also clean with their solvent.

Weapon Shield is great stuff. FP10 was the original version but FP10 isn't the same stuff since George (who created it) left. IIRC George started Weapon Shield. According to George it's working even when it looks dry. Very highly recommended for cold weather and hot. And a little goes a long way so their pin point dispenser is worth its inflated price.

Prior to using this, my Open gun would start misbehaving after the second stage in Winter.  After Weapon Shield I go go the whole match without issues.

4.  Tandemkross DoubleCross Magazine (with original Ruger 10 rd internals) Note:  A friend of mine who uses a Kidd receiver had reliabilty issues with the Ruger mags.  The DoubleCross mags resolved his issues using Ruger internals.

I started having FTF (Failure to Feed) issues with my Wiland 10/22 about a month ago...  The extractor pulls the empty case out and the next round slides up and jams between the top of the barrel and the receiver... It's a hard jam...  You have to pull the bolt back and release the magazine to clear the rifle...  This was using original Ruger clear 10 round rotary mags...  I had been using them for about a year with no issues.

After the first coupe of jams, I tried my TandemKross DoubleKross practice magazines...  They worked flawlessly for the rest of the match...  I put three of them together when I first built my Wiland 22...  They have all Ruger internals.

Bought a couple of Ruger Black 22 rotary magazines...  More jams...  Revert to my TK DK mags and they work perfectly.

Reduced the spring pressure in the new black Ruger mags to 8 flats...  The same as my clear ruger mags and my Practice TK mags that run...  More jams...  TK mags continue to run even though I have never cleaned them in over a year.

Bought a new TK DK mag with all TK parts this time...  Assembled it with 8 flats spring pressure and it also works perfectly...  Shot a practice session with over 200 rounds on the TK mags yesterday...  no jams.

I have changed many parts on the gun trying to get it to run with the Ruger mags again...  It jams every time until I switch to the TK DK magazines, then perfection...  Finally a question:

@Hoops Do you know what your friend did to solve his problems with Ruger magazines not working and TK magazines working?
