SVI_covidvirus
I recently received my SVI IMM Open pistol and as I was trying to get my reloading station set up to make 38 Super Comp I found out that Dillon is out of stock on their 38SC seating die. I was thinking that I would go with a Lee, Redding, Etc. micrometer seating die. I'll be using a SVI IMM Open pistol with 4 offset ports shooting 38SC using VV 3N38, 124G MG HP, with an OAL around 1.245 Also, what is the advantage of using an undersized sizing die? Should I use one on my reloads? I've always used Dillon dies in the past but it looks like that's about to change. TheChewycookie
You should be fine with any 38 Super die. 38SC has a case OAL of 0.893, and regular 38 super is listed between 0.893-0.898. The advantage to an undersizing die is to hold the bullet better in the body of the case to prevent bullet setback, especially with 9 major. I don't see as much of an issue with 38S/SC due to lower pressures generated at major PF within the cartridge.
RogerS
I'm also a big fan of the Redding competition die
