Ezra - Thanks for sharing. I had no idea such a group of reloaders existed.

I wonder what Dillon’s thinking as to why nickel coat the machines and then why they stopped?

Guessing as a rust inhibitor and they stopped because of cost?

The rep I was talking to said that people were complaining because you could see the scuff marks in the finish from where the high spots had been sanded down. I'm guessing like what you see on the toolhead. Anyway, yea I though it was an interesting bit of history and there are no pictures of them on the web that I could find. These pictures came from Dillon of a press they currently have in their shop for a repair/rebuild.

The earliest RL1050s were electroless nickel plated. After we found some lubricants caused the nickel in the crank to peel, we changed to a parkerized finish. Powder coating would be fine, except for the top of the frame where the shellplate rides. Thicknesses in powder coating are too viriable for that location.
