115 gr what powder is suggested

Recommended Posts

I also use clean shot for PCC with 115 plated and for CO with 135 coated. I’m fairly new to PCC and am currently testing loads at  3.9 to 4.1 grains trying to find a load I like.

Sport Pistol powder is an equivalent of N320 if you run out.  I would not go any slower the N320 no matter what barrel length you have.

I didn’t know this.

I was gonna suggest Sport Pistol as I’ve recently switched to it. I LOVE how much cleaner it is on my gas system of the MPX

i (pretty new to reloading) did some pcc test loads yesterday with titegroup and e3 and decided to go with e3, just a hair more accurate.  i'm not good enough to compare recoil impulse etc.

I ran Autocomp with 115’s for a while. They shot super soft but figured out i was loading too light causing malfunctions. Loaded heavier and didn’t like the way the recoil felt(seemed too snappy) so i switched to Titegroup. I’ve noticed my gun runs cleaner and my dot returns to zero in a quicker/smoother fashion. 4.2-4.3 TG with a 115 makes PF!

Wish that there was a safe 9mm load using Clays. I have a ton of this stuff.

There is.  You just can't make PF with it.  Not a problem for SCSA.

I don't like to change loads around. I shoot the same load in all disciplines.

I hear you.  Doesn't work for me.  I have four 9mm loads for four different guns.  Major, minor, PCC and a poly coated load for my home club that does not allow plated or jacketed on steel.

I hear you I just paid $85 for two pounds of N320, the last two within 100 miles.  When it runs out I'm going use some of the 16#s of WST I bought during the OBAMA decade.  Now if I could just find a use for 8#'s of RedDot.

Red Dot is great as a pistol powder.  Alliant used to publish tons of data for it, as well as all their other shotgun powders.  Since this is a thread on 9mm, here are the max loads from their 2005 reloading guide. Data is using WSP and a 4" barrel.

115 FMJ, 1.12 OAL, 4.5gr for 1150 fps @ 32600 psi.

125 FMJ, 1.15, 4.5, 1145, 32000

147 XTP, 1.14, 3.4, 895, 32400

Works fine for 40sw and 45acp as well.

Thanks for the Info.  When I got the RedDot I loaded about a 1000 45's, it was ok but my goto for 45 is Clays (200gr SWC).

Agree Clays makes fine 45 bullseye loads.  When it became had to find I switched to Clay Dot.  It is as close to identical as you can get (so said Hodgdon at the time).  I now use e3 for 45 bullseye with 185s and 200s.  Also 40sw major and minor and 9mm minor.
