Flea
Is there any consensus on the whether in dry fire it's necessary to do the above with mags fully loaded with dummy rounds? Thanks
Eric802
I think it's beneficial to have mags with dummy rounds. There's a notable difference in the feel of loading an empty mag vs. one that has "normal" weight.
rishii
I alway dryfire with mags loaded with dummies 1st of all, the the dummy rounds prevents the feed lips from becoming a knife edge when it hits the magwell 2nd the feel and force need to seat the mag is different using a empty mag compared to a full one, you ever see a mag fall out after a reload, I’d guess that shooter doesn’t practice with full mags
Intheshaw1
I would say loaded with dummies but not the plastic ones but something that adds some weight. I just made a few mags of reloads that are just bullet and casing, no primers and marked those as training mags. George16
To mimic the weight of my dummy roundswith my match ammo, I put some play dough putty inside the case. I also put some silicone putty on the primer pockets to cushion the firing pin.
SGT_Schultz
Dry practice with empty mags and live practice with full mags takes care of the minor differences.
MikeyScuba
The weighted DAA dryfire mags help, especailly with the unloaded starts. In that you don't start having dummy rounds all over the floor.
stick
If you reload, you can make your own dummy rounds. I use un-primed cases and seat green painted heads. I then silicone the primer pockets. Weighted mags will mimic the actual weight of the mags which will translate over when you actually shoot a match.
waktasz
I rarely start with a mag in the gun at all. Just make sure you are practicing hitting the mag button.
