Nick_shoots_fast
first time getting a can and is currently in jail. do you guys use a bore alignment rod everytime you put your can on or just once when you put your muzzle break on?
lwink
Don’t know if this is right or wrong, but one alignment with can installed with whatever method is used (qd system, thread mount, etc) then I’ll trust the mechanical repeatability as long as nothing changes on the system. In my mind it defeats the purpose of a quick detach system to go through an alignment every time you swap platforms. Fyi I’m using silencerco with both asr and direct thread options for different applications.
Nick_shoots_fast
I guess you can just buy a cleaning rod and cut it.
Norther
I bought drill rod from McMasters. Used it only upon brake install. The rod wasn’t as straight as I’d like. Still, by rotating it I got an idea of the alignment. I’d hope the expensive commercial alignment rods are straighter. But the drill rod is available in more calibers. poortrader
I see you're in Collegeville. Kings has rods if you happen to use their kiosk. Don't trust the threading because I know from experience.
RacerX1166
+1 on not trusting barrel threading; I've got a target full of keyholes as a reminder. Most of my cans are Form 1's, so I use guide rods a lot during the initial build and validation process. I skip them after that and never had an issue, which is saying something, considering my typical bore diameters are .080" over on 556 and .035" over on 7.
Nick_shoots_fast
Just got my 22 can and I used my 22 cleaning rod. Kinda a pain to take to the range but it works and now I know the thread pitch is concentric.
mscott
Never used a rod, but always install them and sight through the bore to ensure alignment the first time on any gun. If it is off it will be noticeable. I don’t care if it’s factory threaded, my own thread job, or done by someone else.
