MuayThaiJJ
Hey guys, my stock mag and aftermarket mags aren't dropping freely. I need to depress the release a few times to convince the mag to drop. In the past I've polished the wear on the sides of the mags and it helped. My next step is removing the mag release and making sure the mags drop freely. Anyone else have solutions? thanks!
jwhittin
Hi Nick. I work with the mag shell only (remove the guts and base). For mags that don't drop freely, use a sharpie to identify where the mag is rubbing. Then I use a padded vice and gently squeeze them on the side that is rubbing. Go easy. I tighten slightly, then release, and repeat the process for a couple times then check the fit. Repeat if necessary. I hope this helps Edited November 19, 2020 by jwhittin

Silver_Surfer
By any chance did you recently replaced the mag release with an extended version? Edited November 20, 2020 by Silver_Surfer
rishii
You didn’t post what gun, if it’s something it’s grip screws, check if they’re protruding into the magwell and pinching the mag Also if you have a extended button on the mag catch, the left side of the mag catch may pinch the mag in place after it releases it. A simple fix is to drop a tiny ball bearing into the mag catch spring and use the lock to hold it in place to act as a overtravel stop
tomjerry1
Great idea rishii on the bearing. If he has an A2, could be a Rock Island, I use MBX and modified STI style mags. STI mags need a little squeeze with a vise to size correctly. But he is saying his stock mags are also having same issue, I'd be looking at the grip screws and mag release. MuayThaiJJ
Figured it out, the upper lip on the right side was too tall and getting sandwiched when the mag release locked it in. I filed down this side and not is drops easily. I am using RP9 mags BTW.
