MJinPA
The paint is coming off my frame from holster wear and wondering what the coating is underneath? Do I need to worry about rust or is the frame metal treated?

Nolf1344
I believe the frame is nitride coated, followed by the polycoat on top.

Nitriding, despite what the gun internet thinks, isn't a coating. It's a nitrogen diffusion into the steel's crystalline structure. It's a hardening process that leaves the first .005 - .020 (depending on the exact processing) of the steel from the surface down much harder than the metal deeper down. It does offer some corrosion protection but that's not its main purpose.
