CZ shadow2 orange setup for USPSA production/carry optics

i'm cz s2 orange owner has 6 factory mags,glass,MSA Supreme Pro-X,that's all i have at moment,i want to know what elas i need for uspsa production/carry op,need recommendation like mags/mags pad/holster/Belt/etc....

As posted below, brands don’t really matter but here is what I’ve had success with:

Red Hill Tactical Holster With Springer precision or similar Hanger (holster mount)

Double Alpha competition belt (follow instructions on measurement for size)

CR speed mag pouches

 

For production You can get the brass magazine base pads if you want a little extra weight to help them fall but CZs don’t really need them. For CO, I like the Tarn Tactical ease of disassembly for cleaning mags.

 

For Carry optics you’ll need an optic. Don’t know if your S2 Orange has the cut with plate system or not. If not, I would research and figure out which optic you want and get the slide milled for that optic. I’d look hard at the Trijion SRO as that seems to be the most sturdy option at this time.

I'm not going to tell you "this brand is THE one you want" for every single item.  Sometimes brand matters, most of the time it doesn't.

 

You need a double layer competition belt.  Double Alpha, CRSpeed, Shooters Connection, Black Scorpion, Guga Ribas all make them and they all work about the same.  I've owned Double Alpha and Shooters Connection.  Of those two the Shooters Connection belt is stiffer in torsion (where it matters the most).

 

You need a holster.  Red Hill Tactical is good.  GX Products is good (if you can stomach the excessive lead time).  Comp-Tac is good too and is available without a long wait.  I've been using one forever for a P-09 and a P-10F and it works just fine.  IMO the dual layer kydex holsters are a gimmick.  They are supposed to be stiffer but I'm not sure what that does for you.  Supposedly the gun won't hang up on the draw, well, my pistol has never hung up on a Comp-Tac during the draw once I adjusted the retention screws properly.  A proper holster hanger and belt are far far more important than how stiff you make a plastic holster.

 

You need a holster hanger.  It needs to made of metal (aluminum is plenty strong).  It needs to let you adjust how high your pistol hangs so that you can comply with USPSA production and carry optic rules regarding that subject (and you DO need to read the rules particularly the Appendices on Production and Carry Optics).  It needs to clamp on securely to your belt.  It needs to let you adjust the holster's angle from vertical.  Ben Stoger Pro Shop's BOSS is the standard by which all others are measured.  Springer makes one.  CR Speed makes one (CBAX Production hanger).  There might be some others out there too.

 

You need mag pouches.  Minimum of five for Production and minimum of three for Carry Optics.  If you live somewhere where you're limited to 10 rounds in your magazines, put five pouches on the belt and be done.  The same brands I mentioned in the belt section also make pouches.  They mostly all do the same thing the same way.  Don't sweat this too much.

 

Mag base pads.  Leave your mags alone if you're going to shoot production.  You gain nothing with aftermarket base pads.  For carry optics there are choices: Springer, Henning, Armory Craft, Taran Tactical, Taylor Freelance and CZ Custom all make them.  IMO Henning base pads have the best latch system, which is why I use them.

 

Now, I don't know about where you live but where I live Production is virtually dead.  A year and a half ago it wasn't hard to find 15 or 20 people in Production at local monthly matches.  Now it's hard to find 10.  Most often there's five or less signed up.  Carry Optics here (W Ohio) is second overall in match attendance, and not too far off from the most popular division (Limited).  IMO Carry Optics is the way of the future.  I've already made all my pistol optics ready (either came that way or I had the slide milled).  My real carry guns all have reflex sights (aka red dot).

 

As far as your pistol goes you have two options: buy a Shadow 2 Optics Ready slide and send it to CZ custom to fit a bushing to it or send your slide to CZ Custom to be fitted for their optics adapter plates.  You WANT an adapter plate system on your pistol.  That way you're not married to a particular footprint/brand of optic.  Right now Trijicon is king of the hill in reliability and Holosun is not far behing.  They both use the same foot print.  But who knows what will happen in the future.  Someone else could dethrone them with a revolutionary development and if your pistol is hard milled to accept only Trijicon or Holosun sights you have no options other than a new slide.

This thread is super helpful I somehow talked myself out of bothering with my m&p core for carry optics and went to CZ, toyed around with the idea of just going straight to the czechmate but looked at doing carry optics division instead Bc I’m doing this for fun I can care less about being a national champion with my family life as is. So I’m going shadow 2 either Orange with sending my slide off or just buying a shadow 2 Optics ready gun but unfortunately it won’t come bushed or with trigger upgrade from CZ customs like the orange version.

@nnrrwz what bullet and powder do you plan on going with ? There’s so much info on this forum about the CZ being short throated so JHPs won’t cycle well in them without seating deep.
