Pentium
Small rifle primers in lieu of small PP. With no supply of components out there i have been told small rifle primers can be used but gains 25fps or so with no disadvantage. any thoughts? im using a cz czechmate 9mm with 125g bullet, and 3.7g vitavouri

George16
No problem on my Czechmate with SRP. It’s what I use for my major loads using 124 Gr JHP and 9.7 Gr AA7 or SWMP.
Chutist
I've used small rifle for years, no issues.
shootinsteel
Does a "standard" mainspring light these off reliably or are you using an extra power mainspring? Thanks.

Chutist
Stock Main Spring for me as well. Load and test in YOUR gun. A match is not the place to find out they don't work. You're thinking "Thanks Captain Obvious" - If you shoot matches very long you'll see someone do something just as silly!

pjb45
Don’t count on an extra 25 FPS. I had chrono data for SP, SP match, SP magnum and SR plus match and Magnum. Same barrel. VV 320. Zero or MG. Close to a thousand data points. The same chrono band used at Nationals. I never saw a 25 FPS variance.
Joe4d
what about worry about breech face erosion ? I have read quite frequently of 9mm open major guys using small rifle, but there pressure is UP there. Also I imagine minor loads with really fast powders have a decent peak as well, but what about minor loads with a bit slower like 231 or unique burn rates ? Yes sounds like it works for most, but some items to be concerned with for sure. Not worth the risk in my mind.
Stjs45
Watch this video!!!! It explains and charts the difference from all the different primers. Best testing around!!!
kellymc
A year ago I bought 5000 Wolf small magnum rifle primers 20 dollars a 1000. thought it was a mistake. Today I'm using them in a old trojan 40sw with 4.1 WST They are working great. Looks like I can now shoot for a year without getting into my SPP stash very much. S&W686
I have used Federal Small Rifle primers for my 9 major Open Gun and 40 major limited gun for years. Not one issue.

Dr_Z
For the same brand, small rifle is exactly the same as small pistol magnum, identical dimension and cup thickness. The cup is gonna be slightly thicker than small pistol, but most of the shooters I know have little issues with federal brand.
