zzt
I'm running a Leadstar Prime 9mm PCC with the factory bolt and Blitzkrieg hydraulic buffer and 3/4" short stroke adapter. I'm also using the TUBB flat wire 5.56 carbine spring. With 147s @ 985 fps there is virtually no dot bounce. So I'm happy with the system except for noise. Especially with lighter SCSA loads, the noise of the bolt and spring rubbing against the inside of the tube is so loud I cannot hear hits on the more distance plates. It is also very distracting. So any help you can give me in quieting the system will be appreciated. Link to comment
Adamj
I think the JP Silent Captured Spring (SCS) should do the trick. Link to comment

cecil
i used a cheap buffer tube on one of my builds... then i changed to a better quality buffer tube .. which helped a lot.. Link to comment

The good thing about the SCS is that you can change out the weights to multiple configurations allowing you to tune it for minimal dot movement. I have JP GMR-15 and with my handloads it is very flat. If you go that route definitely get the short stroked version. Link to comment
mrd
Yeah, lots of buffer tubes (even more expensive ones), are not smooth inside and that makes for a lot of noise. I got a Bravo Company tube in the end that was really smooth. I tried Brownells and ALG tubes before and they were far from smooth. On top of that you can polish the outside of the spring, but you need a smooth tube first. Some grease on the spring also helps to quiet it down, not too much though. But beware that grease attracts dust and dirt, not for duty use. Edited June 7, 2020 by mrd Link to comment
xpierrat
wrap the spring with cling wrap ( like you use on food ) helped on mine... got rid of the twang for the most part Link to comment

I read that. I'm hoping for another solution, because My Leadstar bolt has a 3 oz. weight in it. That must be removed for the SCS to work. Without the weight my bolt is very light and slams back against the buffer violently, even with really mouse fart loads. I'll be giving them a call tomorrow to see what will work. 5 hours ago, mrd said: Some grease on the spring also helps to quiet it down, not too much though I haven't tried grease yet. I have oiled the tube and the spring. Not much help. 4 hours ago, xpierrat said: wrap the spring with cling wrap ( like you use on food ) helped on mine... got rid of the twang for the most part I'll give that a try. Thanks. I'm also going to try a JP polished buffer spring. Link to comment

nso123
The SCS with tungsten weights is very soft and quiet. I know some folks have a preference for the Blitzkrieg, but I honestly think my heavy SCS is flatter. Also, the heavier weight of the buffer will help offset removing the bolt weight. Link to comment
NoSteel
You can use a cheap automotive brake cylinder hone to polish the inside of the tube to get it super smooth... Link to comment

Nothing comes close to reducing the noise and with all the weight setups I've been able to tune my rifles to absolutely minimal recoil. Shooting 10's of thousands of rounds suppressed you really appreciate just how much better the SCS is. Link to comment

I don't know about running flat, can't see how it could be much flatter. Link to comment

Don't know I shoot my PCC rarely and only in Steel challenge... with testing and a match this past month only 600 or so rounds but showing no wear so far.... even if it does need changing it is so simple to do Link to comment
assaultthesalt
Have someone hone the inside of your buffer tube.It helps. Did this on a AR build and its smooth as butter. Link to comment
