How often do you clean your gun

Recommended Posts

So maybe this has been beaten to death somewhere else, but I am curious how often you guys clean your open guns? I clean mine, including comp after every time I shoot it, and have been called OCD, and told to wait until the slide starts to slow down before bothering.  Thoughts?

Probably around 700-1k rd timeframe. Don’t really track it. Only shoot JHP’s currently so nothing in comp to clean.

I'm another clean after every time I shoot it. Definitely OCD at work here.

When the slide starts to slow down...1k -1.5k rounds...nothing but JHP down the barrel.

I was actually told by some shooters that their slides will slow down from the gun being dirty.  I have the OCD going on, so I can never confirm that theory myself.

About 1k give or take.   Depends on the powder.  That’s with VV.  With Titegroup it felt like I was scraping black dirt out every third mag.

It seems like when I use PowerPistol, I am cleaning a ton of carbon.

I know a guy that can't sleep at night if his comp is dark, it has to look like new .

I wipe the gunk and re oil after every practice ( 400 rounds ) . If shot a local 100-150 or so, i leave it till 400 mark, may add oil . Full grip off break down and deep clean at 3k .

So I use Accurate #7 for powder and its get pretty dirty after every match. So I clean my gun after every match just to not use that as an excuse incase my gun jams.

I use AA7 and I don’t clean but about every 1k rounds. Both my 9major and 38SC. But I am using 115g JHPs.

After every practice or match, just a good wipe down and sometimes spray a little CLP. Always a full cleaning before a match, if it's getting sluggish, or if it was raining while I was shooting. Definitely not OCD but I don't have any of my firearms with a bunch of left over carbon/residue on them. About once a year, full break down - everything come out, cleaned, then put back together.

Every time I shoot it.

OCD? No. Just love for fine mechanics and firearms. Every time i grab my gun it is at his best, up for every task i throw at it.
