Pre-1985 Westernfield pump shotgun

I'm having trouble with removing the slide on a Westernfield 12 ga pump from early 1980's. All sources say it is same as a Mossburg 550 and slide should just slide off, but will not. Slide comes to a solid stop about midway up the magazine (battery position?) and appears to be stopped by a ring on the magazine. I see no way to remove the ring. Is it a heat/expansion remove or must the magazine be removed? I've used all the "brute force" I'm comfortable trying.

Any help would be appreciated.

 

Update:

I found the answer. On older models the magazine must be unscrewed because the older models have rings on the magazine that prevent slide removal. Ring OD is 1.05 while slide bushing min ID is 1.01. So if you have an older 550 the available videos will only go so far.

Magazine was loctited on, so took some additional measures to avoid damage to tube.
