P250 replacement spring options (supply houses all out of stock)

Howdy folks,

I'm looking for a hard-to-find recoil spring and hoping someone can help. Below are the dimensions and what firearm it goes to, but first a bit of an intro.

 

I'm new to the forum. Glad to be here. Got out of the Marine Corps a couple years ago and at my last duty station (Twentynine Palms) I really enjoyed shooting 3-gun and other matches informally with a club out there whose members were mostly former service members and LEO. I've reloaded for five or six years and also enjoy that a lot. I'm an odd bird– I would run an M1 Garand, Ithaca 37, and 1911A1 (or else a S&W Model 13).

 

But my favorite semi-auto, oddly enough, is the Sig Sauer P250. The full size does what I need it to for friendly competition and the subcompact works great for IWB carry. The DAO trigger is cringe-worthily long, but boy is it smooth, and I don't find the length a problem having come from a revolver background. I shoot it very well, quickly enough, and really enjoy it.

Here's the issue: I've got a full-size, compact, and sub-compact P250, all 3 in 9mm. But for the sub-compact one, I can't find any sort of replacement recoil springs. The other two (full-size and compact) are easy to come by.

Unfortunately, when Sig dumped this gun model from their lineup, they also dumped all semblance of support for it. They sold off their remaining stock of spare parts to the major warehouses, and I have check them all for these subcompact springs. They are ALL out of the 9mm subcompact springs: Numrich, TopGunSupply, Osage, Midway, Brownells, etc.

I even looked through www.springsfast.com and www.thespringstore.com 's catalogs but didn't seem to find anything that matches the profile.

 

 

Below are the measurements I took with dial calipers from the spring on my 9mm subcompact. Thankfully I haven't shot it that much compared to the full size, so I'm hoping it won't be far from accurate for what its starting measurements should be. Let me know if anybody's got an idea on how to get a working replacement. I sent an email to Wolff springs weeks ago (even before the massteria began), but no response so far.

 

The existing spring is a flat recoil spring (i.e. not plain round wire or the braided ones on some other Sigs) with brown paint on one end to mark its identity at Sig.
The Sig rep on the phone checked the sub-level ID for the spring's part number in their system and confirmed it is NOT the same as any other spring they have made. This is relevant because, for example, a P226 spring with the orange paint on it is the exact same as what is used for the FULL-SIZE P250. No, unfortunately the P250 does not use the same springs as the P320 that followed it.

 The sig rep was nice but said they don't have any of the appropriate springs left anyhow. However, that if I wanted to send my pistol in to Sig for an all-inclusive TLC job, cleaning, and tune-up, they'll make sure to replace any necessary springs in the process.  Oh, the bill would have been something like $125 plus I pay the 2-day shipping both ways on top of that. I think I could buy an ultrasonic cleaner for that price come to think of it...

 

Anyway, the spring measurements:

 

Sig Sauer P250 subcompact 9mm recoil spring

Free length 80mm = 3.1496"

Wire diameter 2mm =0.07874"

Inner diameter: 6.833mm = 0.269"

outer diameter 10.9mm = 0.4291"

23 coils

 

 

The really frustrating part is, I remember a few years ago when Sig was still supporting the gun with spare parts sold directly, you could buy a complete set of ALL the replacement springs for less than I pay for one of the recoil springs now...

 

Is it worth giving Wolff a call back? Or perhaps someone with more experience with springs can figure out what a close substitute, even with round wire stock, would be. I wish I knew the poundage on it to begin with.

Did you have any luck finding one sig offered to work on my P250sc at the custom shop but damn I don’t want to pay custom money for a simple fix 

 

I might buy the p320sc spring and see if I can mill it out to fit
