Popple Hole Question

Recommended Posts

I purchased a used Open gun and have put enough rounds thru it that I know I want 2 popple holes. The original owner had the slide lightened with side cuts on the slide. My question is whether too much material has been removed to allow holes cut with a slot? Has anyone dealt with this type of issue? What would happen if I installed 2 popple holes without the slot? Appreciate any wisdom.

No problem poppel holing that slide.  I would only do a minimal slot if that is what you want and then put in 2 5/32" holes.  Likely slot into the comp and put one of the holes in the comp and the other about where a front site would sit.

Risky business in my opinion,  but load,  fitting and spring weights may contribute to it going either direction. Good luck

I put two popple holes in my gun after the fact. I tried to get them as close to the comp as I could and maintain what I thought was structural integrity.

I bet you could put two in here in your gun like I pictured it. It is hard to tell sizes through the pics, but it should work. There is no reason beside looks to do a slot that I know of.

Why not use the existing rib cage slide cuts to put “V” pattern popple holes in the barrel?

This would be a great option to go with.  You could start with 2 holes closest to the end of the barrel and you'll get the benefit of not smoking up the glass on your optic as much since the smoke would go out to the sides.
