2020 Kentucky Low Cap Sectional Championship - Postponed

Recommended Posts

Got this from the Match Director a few minutes ago.

Good afternoon all!  Please read the message below from MD Lafe Kunkel regarding the 2020 Ky Section Championships.  Lots of info, but important!

Hello everyone,

First of all, I will apologize for this being somewhat long winded, but I feel that this level of detail, explanation, and transparency is necessary for the situation we all find ourselves in at the moment and what we are trying to accomplish moving forward to the extent these rapidly changing and unpredictable circumstances allow. With the current COVID-19 concerns and social distancing recommendations that seem to be changing by the hour, we have no choice right now but to reschedule the 2020 Kentucky Low Cap Section Championship that was to take place at Blue Grass Sportsmen’s League in Wilmore, KY on April 10-11, 2020. This was not an easy decision to make, but one that is ultimately not in our control and made in the interest of public health and the safety of our staff, competitors, and everyone that could be affected by the potential transfer of infection through all possible resulting contact. We know there are varying opinions on this situation, but a conservative approach is the safest bet at this time to try to do our part in getting passed this situation as quickly as possible and back to what we all love to do.

One of the primary reasons to hold the 2020 Kentucky Low Cap Section Championship in early April (in addition to carrying on the Battle in the Bluegrass tradition) was to serve as a warm up match to USPSA Classic Nationals which was to take place the first weekend in May, but has now been rescheduled to September 3-6, 2020. This puts us in another predicament as that is the same weekend that we had planned to hold the 2020 Kentucky High Cap Section Championship at Blue Grass Sportsmen’s League. The conflict between the rescheduled USPSA Classic Nationals and the 2020 Kentucky High Cap Section Championship will put too much strain on the 2020 Kentucky Low Cap Section Championship from a staffing and competitor standpoint, so we are forced to reschedule that match as well. A lot of matches are trying to reschedule right now for the second half of the season, as we are all trying to work together to make sure we can hopefully get as many major matches run in 2020 as possible.

I know a lot of you know that these matches take a lot of time and money to put together to ensure the competitors the best experience possible.  Match directors around the country are all trying to work through the best possible solution for everyone right now to do just that.

This brings us to our plans moving forward. I will preface this with the shear fact that we do not know the path that the COVID-19 concerns will take in the coming months and what future recommendations on public gatherings will look like, but we are trying the best we can to put on a great match for all of you if we are able to do so. All of these dates and deadlines are subject to change and/or cancellation due to circumstances that are out of our control in the coming months!

Here we go:

The 2020 Kentucky Low Cap Section Championship and 2020 Kentucky High Cap Section Championship are going to be combined into an All Divisions 2020 Kentucky Section Championship scheduled for June 12-14, 2020. This will now be a full 3-day match shot in a single day format, staff and competitors shooting Friday, June 12, and competitors only on Saturday and Sunday, June 13-14. This will still be a 12 stage, 313 round match.

Everyone who has already registered, paid and squadded for the 2020 Kentucky Low Cap Section Championship have a few options:

1.       You can transfer your registration directly to the All Divisions 2020 Kentucky Section Championship scheduled for June 12-14, 2020 (link will be sent separately in the next few days). You will be allowed to squad before the opening of general registration, and you can switch to whatever division you want to shoot (don’t have to remain in the low cap division you originally registered in).

2.       You can withdraw through PS in the current Low Cap match with a full refund of your match fees and match t-shirt if you ordered one.

Currently registered shooters will have 2 weeks to decide if they want to transfer or withdraw, with a deadline of April 3rd, 2020.

***This is a courtesy option for those shooters that already registered, paid, squadded and have made travel plans to shoot the Low Cap match at the original scheduled date. This option in no way short changes those that were planning on shooting the High Cap match in terms of match slot availability because we are now doubling the capacity of the match by adding an extra day.***

If you have friends who were waiting for the High Cap match: Everyone else that was not registered for the 2020 Kentucky Low Cap Section Championship and would like to shoot the All Divisions 2020 Kentucky Section Championship:

-          General registration will open on Friday, April 10th at 9:00 pm Eastern Standard Time.

-          Competitors registering starting on Friday, April 10th will be able to squad WITHOUT PAYMENT (registrar will still approve to squad, but will be short turnaround)

The purpose of allowing the additional registration without payment is for us to preserve the flexibility we will need to change the plans for this match if these restrictions that are outside of our control do not change in our favor. This will also save us the 3% credit card processing fee that we will not recover on all new registrations should we have to cancel this match as we get further down the road.

We will make a final decision if we are a go/no go for the match on May 12th, 2020 based off of the state of the COVID-19 concerns and the state/federal public gathering recommendations at that time.

If we are a go on the match on May 12th, 2020, payment will be opened at that time and payment will be due by May 19th, 2020 or you will be removed from the match.

***PLEASE READ THIS!!!!***

If you do not feel comfortable accepting this level of uncertainty, or will have high travel expenses that may not be recoverable a month before the match, you should probably reconsider registering for this match.

I know there are a lot of variables at play here, but please keep in mind that we are doing everything that we can to increase the odds of having the opportunity to present you all with the best match that we can. Please work with us and work together through all of this turmoil, we all need to stick together (while keeping our distance) until this all blows over.

Thanks a lot,

Lafe Kunkel

A heads up, I can only find the signup for the Section Championship by using the link on Facebook. If you use the search on PS, it doesn’t come up. Never seen this before.

I found it on PS, but it's set up as a private match.  I just e-mailed Lafe about it.
