Low ride thumb safety

Does anyone make a low ride thumb safety anymore? I have a standard wilson ambi on my open gun, but I have smaller hands and short thumbs and with the way my thumb rides the safety its angled so the racker barely clears my thumbnail. I've found a bunch but none are made anymore. Are there any current options?

My wife has this one. It was very narrow after fitting it with a steel grip, so I widened it.

The gunsite low mount thumb safety is the OG safety of that style.  As it's dated, it may have fallen out of favour.

A quick search turned up with this one from Wilson.

Its hard to tell from the pics how it compares to the Gunsite, so you may need to do more research.. but its a start.

I have no experience with the Wilson.

Also here's a sleazy looking classified ad.. who knows.. its worth a shot in the dark. : )

I had a low ride Wilson safety back when I had a 1911.  I loved it, it allowed me to use a more natural thumbs-forward grip.  I shoot CZs now and the thumb safetys on those are more like a low ride 1911 safety.  It's almost as if they accounted for a normal human hand when they placed the lever.

That's basically what I want. My dad shoots all cz's and the safety on those all fit my hands better but I like the 2011 platform more.

I installed this one from EGW on my open gun. I like it. It allows me to get my trigger finger on the shoe like I prefer. Comes in stainless of blued. It required quite more fitting than a typical safety. For a 2011 you will have to sand down part of your polymer grip so it can have its full range of motion. Not sure how you would go about it on a steel grip.

I'll check it out. I have a steel grip so I'd have to see how it would fit.

Give EGW a call. I'm sure they could tell ya in 5min or less....

Might not want to have to take a dremel to that nice shiny metal grip lol. I don't know what I'm gonna do when I go to a steel grip. Suck it up and shoot a normal safety I guess haha.

I probably will call. Be easier than ordering and trying it out.

Did you make a decision and order one yet??

I recently got another 2011 and it came with swenson safeties on it. Once I do a normal grip reduction I believe it will be perfect. It is a much better angle than other safeties I have used. I actually sold the gun I had my EGW low ride safety on, but swapped the original safeties back on before I sold it. If you want the EGW low ride safety I might sell it to you. Would have to make sure I was 100% good with the swensons, but I'm thinking I will be.

I haven't yet. Everything I want to get has been put on hold for a little bit.
