I love my Red Hills Tactical with the Springer Precision hanger, that said I would get one for a 5" gun that way you don't need a new holster if you get a full size gun later, but I'm cheep that way.

Will the gun rattle around since there is an extra half an inch in the holster?

You don't mention which competition sport, so I'll cover USPSA and IDPA:

For USPSA, the DoubleAlpha PDR Pro II should meet the requirements: https://www.doublealpha.biz/us/pdr-pro-ii

It has a ball adjustment so lots of adjustability and the commander slide shouldn't change the fit since the trigger guard is where the retention takes place.

For IDPA, the IDPA PDR Pro II: https://www.doublealpha.biz/us/idpa-pdr-pro-2-holster

The IDPA version has 2 height settings and adjustable cant angle.  Nowhere near as adjustable as the USPSA version, though.

not at all, there will just be more room for a longer slide the 4.25 will have just as much contact with the holster as if it was in a shorter holster.

I'm new to all this and this will be my first holster. I'm not planning on competing any time soon, but I'd like to get a holster that I can adjust both for height and cant and doesn't lay flat on my hip which seems to move me into a competition type holster. Can you wear a holster like the above with just a regular stiff nylon gun belt that goes through you belt loops, or do you have to have the two-belt set up?
