nasty618
Hi all, I'm using the Mecgar .45 mags with the Dawson Ice magwell. They fit so flush that I have to slam them to ensure a good lock up. My palm hits the edges of the magwell and sometimes the mag doesn't fully lock in. Are there compatible basepads for mecgars that would allow them to stick out a bit more and still be USPSA SS legal? echotango
I got tired of the ice magwell as it was hard to seat mags even with the dawson base pads(9mm). I switched to the ipsc version and all problems went away.
Shep
I use the Dawson classic, no issues so far but I do not shoot single stack in competition either.
mwray
I use the same magwell and with their base pads I have no issues. Be sure to get the right base pads for what insert you are using
N3WWN
I'm not sure about basepads specifically for Mec-Gar mags, but there are base pads that add length to existing magazines. Here's a couple from Brownells: https://www.brownells.com/magazines/handgun-magazines/magazine-parts/magazine-floorplates/1911-base-pads-for-7-round-magazines-prod24799.aspx https://www.brownells.com/magazines/handgun-magazines/magazine-parts/magazine-floorplates/magazine-bumper-pad-w-screws-sku620000011-24857-47951.aspx I use Wilson Combat mags and ran into the same problem... so I use the 47BEN extended basepad. The 47BEN makes the mags too long to fit in the USPSA box, so I have to taper the mag slightly: This provides quite a bit more mag sticking below the magwell while remaining 100% SS legal. Factory 47D magazine basepad that came on my mags in front compared to the tapered 47BEN: You should be able to achieve the same effect by adding extensions to your existing Mec-Gar mag baseplates. That's it, that is exactly what i was hoping to make happen with the Mecgars! I cant seem to find a suitable base pad option online that is specific for the 45 ACP Mecgar magazine. I wonder if this one might work: https://www.mec-gar.com/pistol-magazines/1911/1911-.45-8rd-Match-Grade but i just need the basepad, not new mags. jschweg
This is why I ended up switching away from the ICE magwell. I loved the magwell, but even with the dawson competition basepads, only the back corner of the basepad would stick out below the funnel so I found myself under inserting mags quite a bit. I probably would have tried the ipsc version if I knew that worked at the time, but just switched back to S&A and haven't missed the ICE too much. BrknCylncr
I finally found bases for the MecGar mags... they're the same as the ACT mag, just the follower is different. https://www.dlsports.com/superior_design_base_pads.html
