zhunter
Just as the title says, what is the best way to remove the front sight? I banged on it pretty hard from the left side and it did not want to move. Ideas?
Cowboy1629
The best way is with a sight pusher such as the MGW Sight Pro. But that’s a lot of money to spend for one sight. You should be able to drive it off with a hammer and brass punch. If you need to, get a bigger hammer.
Rich406
I used a hammer and punch. Once it starts moving it comes out easily. But I did initially gave to hit it harder than I was comfortable with.

I was using a punch and a mallet, I guess I will go for the hammer
Rob1125
I usually cover the tip of the punch with masking tape to prevent marring. On a Sig try driving the sight from right to left.
rowdyb
soft jaws in the vice, slide in the vice, brass punch, very very hard hits with an actual hammer.
iflyskyhigh
It’s still a lot of money to spend for one sight but the Wheeler Sight Pusher is a excellent tool. You might even find yourself spending more money and replacing more sights once you have it. [emoji2]Maybe even charge friends and neighbors a couple bucks to change sights?Cheaper than refinishing your gun when after you mar it. Good luck. zhunter
The Wheeler sight tool looks amazing, but I am a CO shooter, the front sight is not necessary and can be distracting. I only need to remove it, but thanks

I would think they wouldn't charge more than 20 bucks to remove the front sight.
MadBomber
Just use a brass punch from right to left. I did this on a couple P320 pistols. Much better in CO without the front post in the view.
OPENB
I had to change the sights on an M&P, which are close to welded in. Banging on them was no-go. I ended up vising the sight blade itself, covering the slide with tape and wacking it, and moving the slide off the sight. It worked, nothing was marred or damaged. B585
I only had one that was really, really difficult. Eventually with heat and a mini sledge I got it. The sight was trashed, but otherwise no issues. I was like you and that I was not going to be putting in another sight.
zhunter
Right to left and hitting it harder was the trick. I did not go for the big hammer, but got it out.
MadBomber
Far out! Now you can run your blaster without that glowing green thing confusing your dot.

Exactly, a front sight in CO is a visual distraction.
iflyskyhigh
Was it scary? Banging on your gun with a hammer? [emoji23] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
MadBomber
I shot one( or half) of a match with the front sight on. After the second stage, I took a knife and cut the fiber optic out. As soon as I got home, out came the hammer and punch. Bye bye front post!
