Best or good factory JHP ammo?

I recently got into the pcc game and am having more fun than ever, but along with a new hobby come a million questions. 

 

I have been reading extensively about compensators and the process of cleaning them and keeping them clean. From what I can gather most shooters in pcc and a lot of open shooters suggest shooting JHP bullets so that lead doesn't build up on the compensator. 

 

I currently do not reload and won't be able to for the foreseeable future. So I was looking online and found that most commercial ammo is fmj, which leaves an exposed lead base that will eventually start fouling. 

 

Can anyone point me in the direction of some factory ammo that's jhp that would be good for pcc shooting? I don't have a problem paying more for quality ammo. 

 

So far I have taken the advice I saw in a few threads about spraying dillon case lube on the comp before shooting to provide a barrier and slow fouling, and it has helped a lot. So far I have about 2000 rounds of various ammo, most of it federal syntech pcc and haven't noticed any significant build up. But if I can avoid any headaches by using a different ammo I am game. 

 

I know I am probably over thinking this, but reading all the threads on here of comp woes got me thinking. I would just soak the comp in a cleaner and pick the mess out but all of my barrels are 14.5 pin and welded so soaking would be more of a pain. 

 

So, like I said, any suggestions of good jhp ammo would be greatly appreciated!

If the link posted doesn’t pull up the listed bullet types change the filter in the search at target barn. My preferred ammo is from Everglades but I listed other choices. The cmj and tmj are round nose profiles without exposed lead bases. Welding splatter also works to keep the comp clean of fouling.

@Vargr grab Federal Syntech PCC ammo from anywhere. Synthetic coating completely encapsulates the lead bullet, lead free primer and the powder is very clean. All that combined results in minimal junk building up anywhere. That load is specifically designed for PCC. 

Also, don't overthink the comp thing. I usually just shoot the crud out.

Federal Syntech can be flame cut and cause leading to the comp.  Plus there are an unacceptable amount of Ftfs ans squibe.

MD Ammunitions reloads 9mm with good plated bullets.  A friend used them for two years in his Leadstar with comp and there is zero buildup.  The 9mm 115 @ 950fps is literally a mouse fart.  It will gain about 200fps in a 16" barrel.    This is not commercilally remanufactured ammo.  You will get a fair number of short OALs due to brass inconsistencies.  Personally, I'd rather pay more for new ammo.

 

That being said, I've shot a lot of the Everglades 9mm 124 reman ammo.  It is good and consistent.  I'm now using the Prvi 147 and like it a lot.

I have shot that before but always when practicing with my ccw since it's meant to mimick the recoil of self defense loads. I might have to try and see how it feels 

 

I have been reading about the Everglades ammo and the reviews seen overhwmingly positive. Now I just have to wait for them to have any in stock so I can try it.

@Darqusoull13 synthetic coated bullets produce lead fouling. The powder (sport pistol) burns the coating off the base causing exposed lead.  To your other point it is impossible to shoot out lead fouling from a comp with ports, or a comp with small holes like the answer. It is possible to shoot the lead hanging in the baffle but that leads to inaccurate rounds.

Depending on what length barrel they got the velocity (900 FPS) from, power factor is about 132; 900 x 147/1000 = 132.3 PF

I like the Atlanta Arms Elite 115 JHP ammo. It's what I've used most, but I'm switching over to reloading my own to keep costs down.

My experience does not support this theory. We get quite a few bullet recoveries in our sandy bays and this is a typical image of the base of a Syntech round. This is also typical of Blue Bullets. Note the complete coverage of the base and lack of exposed lead. 

If you want to use JHP's, that's cool. You do you. The OP has had good experience with Federal already and I'm going to recommend he stick with it.

@Darqusoull13 we may both be right and both be wrong... apparently the 115gr syntech burns the bottom and fouls the comp.. the 130gr syntech doesn’t burn the bottom and doesnt foul anything.
