Suggestions for sport pistol in 45 with 200 grain rn plated

Just acquired 4 lbs of sport pistol and plan on using it in 9 and 45. In 45, I have 200 gr. round nose plated bullets and am looking for suggestions on loading soft shooters with reasonable accuracy from my new to me m&p 45 and shield 45.  No access to Chrony at this time. Plinking and speed steel. Thanks in advance. Steve

Well,,, I tried 5.0 and 5.1 grains of sport pistol with the 200 gr. rn plated. My 45 shield seems to like the 5.1 better. 5.0 doesn't consistently feed. Still no chrony here. Anyone else 45/200rn and Sport Pistol?

While I have not used it in 45, my experience in 9 is that it is very close in charge weight/velocity to titegroup - except that sport pistol burns cooler.

That bit of knowledge seems to be helpful to many, as lots of us have at lease some experience with titegroup.

I'd find some TG load data and back it off a little as a good place to start.

Go to Alliant's web site and look at their load data.  It's easy to get to.  5.0 & 5.1 grs is way under all they have listed for 45.

And, all of my loads require a few tenths more Sport Pistol than Titegroup to reach the same PF.

I loaded from 5.0 to 5.8 using 200 lead swc and 5.2 grs was accurate and I like the recoil of that charge it gave me about 810 Fps from a 5” 1911. It’s not the same bullet as you was asking for but it might help.

I found that to be true in the 40 S&W too!

I was using this combination last night in my S&W 625-8 with full moon clips.  I originally loaded them for my Trophy Match but decided to use them in the revolver.  Full power for sure in a 1911!

I've already loaded some more over 5.4 grs. for the Springfield Trophy Match (will try to check the velocity on both charges this weekend)

Bullet:  X-Treme 200 gr RN

Powder:  Alliant Sport Pistol 6.0 gr.

Primer:  Federal 150

Case:  Winchester

OAL:  1.250

I  didn't get to do any chronograph work but 5.4 grs. of SP under a 200 gr. X-Treme was still a little zippier than I like.   I'll go down to 5.0 grs. next time.  I found it works great in my S&W 625-8!

In the S&W 625-8 at 30 feet (eighteen rounds).

Bullet:  Hornady 185 gr. Z-Max (with cannelure)

Powder:  Alliant Sport Pistol 6.05 grs.

Primer:  Federal 150

Case:  Winchester .45 ACP

OAL:  1.265

Thanks to all that replied. Been using 5.2 with 200gr. extreme rn, OAL 1.250  in my shield 45 and 01 full size 45. Both pistols seem happy with it, low recoil and full cycling. Don't have access to a chrony, yet. Accuracy is more than acceptable. May give 5.0 a closer look.

i almost have all of the things to start .45 over asp and have two summer's hy-tek bullets, 200gr swc and 233gr rn. i bet i've loaded 20k of hi-tek 9mm over asp, hoping for the same consistent results i've had with nine.

does the dillon seating die keep the same oal when flipping from swc to rn? or does this make any difference? what kind of velocity should i seek/expect out of a glock 30 for gssf?

i loaded up my first test rounds. the lighter loads had a few failures to eject, so i'm going to work 5.4 gr to 6.0 gr and see how they do for accuracy.
