Volquartsen Black Mamba vs Scorpion

Thinking about purchasing  A Volquartsen Black Mamba  or a Scorpion . Any preferences as to which.. And what good brand of 22 cal. ammo for them. And 4/1/2" barrel or 6" for steel challenge  matches.

I have the Mamba and like the grip style but you can't go wrong with either the Mamba or Scorpion.  Mine likes CCI SV, Blazer and Mini Mags.   I practice with Blazer but use SV for Steel Challenge matches.

I see you have the 6" barrel, do you think it's better than the 4 1/2"? I have heard that some prefer the 4 1/2 for steel challenge because it was easier r to transition  from target to target.

I'm not good enough to tell the difference between the 6 and 4.5.  My backup gun is a mostly stock Mark IV 22/45 and is slighter but as I say I can't really tell the difference in speed.

Not owning either but having a fair bit of experience with both MkII and MkIV Rugers I would always go for the Mamba since it's built on the MkIV frame.  Unless you enjoy learning an intricate and fussy disassembly/reassembly procedure for cleaning, the MkIII frame (Scorpion) should be avoided.

It's easy but I still know someone that takes hours getting his back together.  One button on the Mamba and you are all set.
